The food at Banners is very good in my experience and the place is charming. Sadly my experience there is tainted my repeated rude service which puts me off somewhat. A shame because their chicken salad is very tasty!

So many of these reviews are literally saying something which is not true. Banners food is that rare if not unique combination of: fresh, delicious, big and incredible value. Furthermore, the atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and welcoming with kids catered for very well too (and I don't even have kids). There's also no fuss made over the famous or beautiful people that stop by not infrequently; I went there recently with a shockingly stunning girl and not an eyelid was batted - they treated us like she was a normal human. Which is just as we wanted it.
There are many great places to eat in London but Banners is definitely the best. Basically, eat there.
PS: I am connected neither by friendship nor by family to this restaurant. I just admire the excellent job that they do.

Love this place. Crouch End institution. The reviews here are unfair. The food is packed full of taste and flavour. Anywhere I see Dizzee Rascal eating too is good enough for me. Portions are big and the variety on the special menu always good. I eat here regurlarly.
Try the Chorizo in Port starter!

Banners is rubbish. I just had Jamaican chicken and roti. The chicken pieces were pre-cooked and just mixed with curry sauce and that eas never a roti. Prawns were tasteless. When will the Brits say you are serving me rubbish?

How can anyone say that Banners is their favourite restaurant unless they have bad taste in food or they are friends of staff / owner! Seriously the food is sub standard and the restaurant and toilet are filthy - spend your money elsewhere!

Banners is our favourite place to eat in London - we eat there tooo much. THe food is always fantastic , the service great. They know the menu. The specials are always great and the cocktails super. Even the choice of beers available.
Ignore any other review on here - its the tops. When my family come to visit - its the place they want to go too.
Do book though. Best . Place. ever

I visited Banners today with my daughter. Firstly I received the incorrect meal - the waitress was very rude and hostile towards me when I informed her that I did not order the dish delivered to me but that it was ok and not to bother. The toilets are disgusting and have no baby changing facilities. My bill arrived with the incorrect item charged to the bill - when I asked the waitress to remove the item as I have not ordered it - she stormed off in a fury and then started talking about me to other staff and the entire restuarant could hear. The manageress came over and agreed that the staff member was very rude! Gosh - what a bad experience. if you are not interested in a decent meal or do not care for good service then Banners is the place for you. The worst place I have eaten in years!

i went to Banner's today for the first and definitely the last time. It was described as a very child friendly place - but that is rather misleading. Firstly you come in through a very narrow door followed by a step - which makes it almost impossible to manouver a pram in. Then there are no baby changing facilities at all - and in fact the toilets are small and dirty - so there is no way to change a child on a floor either - they do have a kids menu - but that is the only thing. We ordered fish and chips for the kids which came without any vegetables - we also ordered a chicken salad for £14.50 and a burger for £12. Portions were large - but the quality of the food was poor. Service was ok, but not great either.
Totally overpriced, not child friendly, and not great food. No real reason to return.

What a lovely evening I had last night. I went to my favourite restaurant in Crouch End - Banners. I have been going there since it opened and it amazes me how consistently good the whole experience is - lovely atmosphere, fabulous food (both taste and portions!), great relaxed service. It's popularity is testimony to it's fabulousness !!!! ... May it last for another 18 years .... at least !!!

What has happened? The food was terrible and way over priced. £15 for a rubbish steak.
We weren't the only ones that walked out saying how bad it was.
Food presentation was like eating at a roadside cafe.
They really need a professional chef. The service was terrible. The place is scruffy.
I've been going for years but recently it's lost the plot. There are far better restaurants in Crouch End & Hornsey village that are better value and serve good food.
I think Banners is on the way out.
