My family and I had a very pleasant meal. I found the menu a little daunting with so many dishes to choose from. The waitress was very helpful in suggesting dishes suitable for us to try.

The children enjoyed the fact that we sat in the low seats (upstairs), however, the grandparents weren't so keen on this aspect!

The food and service was very good and we would defnitely go there again and recommend it to our friends.

WOW!

Went there for Sunday lunch and it was packed. I have been there quite a few times and have really enjoyed myself. Was a bit wary about going there again after having read some of the negative reviews. But went there and had a fantastic time. As a reviewer said earlier, do NOT listen to the negative reviews. This place is a real gem.

I've been there approximately 20 times and have never been disappointed by anything. True, they do have a slightly annoying habit of bringing dishes at different times when they're busy. I had quite a bad experience one very crowded Saturday night, but usually it's always great food and good service. I've brought plenty of friends there, tried many different dishes, and bif fans of Japanese food all agree that it's a good place. The Thai food is very good too.

I cant beleive that people have given this restraunt a bad review!

Do NOT listen to these bad reviews! I promise you if you go you will be more than happy with the service, food, rapore and just the whole place in general. The price is spectacular for what it is! Grade A.

10/10 for me. Ive been here about 4 time and every single time its exceeded my expectations and keeps me going back. Ive taken a number of different friends and every single one of them loved it! Thai currys are increddible and so is the Thai chow mein. d:-)

I think most of these people are being a little bit picky! Im sure Gordon Ramseys restraunt wouldnt be good enough for them either!

If your in Soho and you want Thai/Jap food def go here!!

I've been to this restaurant about 5 times and my experience has become progressively less enjoyable. The first time I ate here I thought it was marvellous: great food, great value and a really enjoyable experience. However, in under two years, my view has changed.

Last night saw the worst service yet. My husband's eagle eyes spotted that the waitress had written down a pork gyoza for his starter - he's a vegetarian! I ordered some sushi to start, but the waitress told me that it may take some time, so would I like it after my main course! I declined this and changed my order, only to be told that the new starter I'd selected wasn't available. Fine, I ordered some Dim Sum instead... I was dismayed that this arrived 25 minutes after my husband's starter which, of course, he finished well before mine arrived.

Finally, I was tucking into my starter, (which was decent enough, it must be said) when my main course arrived, just plonked down in front of my husband! As I mentioned, he's vegetarian, so I thought that placing a pad thai with a giant king prawn sticking out of the top was particularly inappropriate! After complaining to three waitresses, finally it was taken away, so I continued eating.

Then I had finished and my dishes were cleared. A few minutes later, my husband's main course arrived - and I had to wait another five minutes for my main course to be brought back to the table! Presumably it had been stuck in the microwave, as by the time I started eating it the chicken inside was bone-dry, as was the egg wrapped around the noodles.

When the bill came, it was just a total - no itemisation. I know it will have included a service charge and if I wasn't wearied by the Ikkyusan experience and desperate to leave, I would have queried it.

Ikkyusan has run out of chances: I definitely won't be going back and I really mean it this time!

I am frankly quite surprised at the other reviews- I regularly dine here and the service is always helpful and friendly. The food is always fresh and delicious and there is definitely a unique ambiance here. Ignore the bad reviews and give it a go!

My partner and I visited a restaurant on Gerrard Street called Ikkyusan, with a friend last night.

Due to having to wait for an hour for a set menu dish that didn't actually require any cooking (and the food was less than fresh), we refused to pay the service charge. After some resistance from the manageress, we were finally informed that if we didn't pay the service charge the waitresses wouldn't get paid. I explained to her that the waitresses were entitled to minimum wage and we weren't obliged to pay the service charge if we were unhappy with the service. The manageress responded by saying that all the restaurants in Chinatown were like this and thats just how it was!

The reciept she supplied was not itemised either. It simply presented a grand total with a list of meals, without any break down of price per meal or whether 10% or 12% had been placed on the bill as a service charge. We were not the only dissatisfied customers there that night.

Having previously noted it did dim sum all day and evening I went there for the first time last night, being in the mood for some tasty snacks and not having a whole lot of time.

It took a good 10 minutes or more for them to inform me one of the 4 dishes was unavailable and could I choose a replacement. Half an hour after my order, the other 3 dishes arrived and were delicious - lovely slippery prawn dumplings, the firm and generous prawns contrasting beautifully with the gelatinous coating; luscious charsiu pork buns, and savoury morsels of sticky rice with sausage and peanut. Flavours and textures were spot-on, great stuff. But of my substitute 4th dish there was no sign, and regretfully (and somewhat irritably) I had to cancel it and leave, as my time had run out. The staff were helpful and friendly throughout, but service points lost for the wait.

I will go back to try again, but strictly when I'm not under any time constraints. Other dishes I saw being served all looked impeccably presented, as though all elements had been individually, painstakingly teased into position. Perhaps the kitchen should devote less time to this, and more to just preparing and serving the excellent food they can obviously turn out.

If you want unpleasant, miserable waitresses and to choke on cigarette smoke or food that are overpriced and frankly bad quality...then you have got to try Ikkyusan. I just want to say - it was my first time eating here and had such a bad time that I would not like to repeat the same crapness of this place.

I have just come back from eating at this restaurant for the first time...and want to express my experience.

There were three of us and one was yet to arrive, and we were seated at a table for six. When we requested (twice) to be seated at a different table (for six, and away from smokers) because we were placed in a smoking area (not requested) and was not enjoying the lack of oxygen. We were told (much to their annoyance) we couldn't swap tables IN CASE six people came in and wanted to sit there. We nearly left but didn't as we were expecting our friend to arrive to try out the food here.

Anyways, we decided to see the lighter side of it, and ordered food when our friend arrived. Food arrived sporadically and it was nothing special - as well as not much there. The maki rolls were average if not poor quality. They charge about £9 for 'jumbo prawns' dish - which consisted of only 4 average-sized king prawns with ginger and spring onions. The rest of the food - was OK, again nothing special. So we went on to order some desserts as the food was abit spicy...We ordered a thai sweet rice dessert and a fruit platter - which we were told the latter would take 20mins to prepare. We thought that would be OK as it gave us some time to finish our drinks...though we did think just how long does it take to prepare fruit?? So 20 minutes later - the thai dessert came and a very minimal dish of 2 kiwis, bits of melon and half a mango - which hardly looked like more than 5mins of work or worth £5. We spoke to one of the waitresses - not the one who brought the desserts over - who actualy looked at the dish and was confused herself - and told us the kitchen was busy and she offered to take the platter and the dessert off the bill. Honestly - we had been at the restaurant from 7.30 until about 9.30 - and though most tables were fullish, it died down after 8.30...to about half full...I personally don't think just because the kitchen was busy - that customers should be given poor standard or lack of food. They should be able to accommodate the amount of settings they have. Anyways, apparently she took it off the bill (which was not itemised).

Overall it was pricey for not so great food and the staff (bar one) were unpleasant. I would not go back there or recommend it.
