I have just come back from eating at this restaurant for the first time...and want to express my experience.

There were three of us and one was yet to arrive, and we were seated at a table for six. When we requested (twice) to be seated at a different table (for six, and away from smokers) because we were placed in a smoking area (not requested) and was not enjoying the lack of oxygen. We were told (much to their annoyance) we couldn't swap tables IN CASE six people came in and wanted to sit there. We nearly left but didn't as we were expecting our friend to arrive to try out the food here.

Anyways, we decided to see the lighter side of it, and ordered food when our friend arrived. Food arrived sporadically and it was nothing special - as well as not much there. The maki rolls were average if not poor quality. They charge about £9 for 'jumbo prawns' dish - which consisted of only 4 average-sized king prawns with ginger and spring onions. The rest of the food - was OK, again nothing special. So we went on to order some desserts as the food was abit spicy...We ordered a thai sweet rice dessert and a fruit platter - which we were told the latter would take 20mins to prepare. We thought that would be OK as it gave us some time to finish our drinks...though we did think just how long does it take to prepare fruit?? So 20 minutes later - the thai dessert came and a very minimal dish of 2 kiwis, bits of melon and half a mango - which hardly looked like more than 5mins of work or worth £5. We spoke to one of the waitresses - not the one who brought the desserts over - who actualy looked at the dish and was confused herself - and told us the kitchen was busy and she offered to take the platter and the dessert off the bill. Honestly - we had been at the restaurant from 7.30 until about 9.30 - and though most tables were fullish, it died down after 8.30...to about half full...I personally don't think just because the kitchen was busy - that customers should be given poor standard or lack of food. They should be able to accommodate the amount of settings they have. Anyways, apparently she took it off the bill (which was not itemised).

Overall it was pricey for not so great food and the staff (bar one) were unpleasant. I would not go back there or recommend it.

I went for the first time last night. The menu looked impressive, a great choice of dishes. In end I went for the beef teriyaki and prawn bento whilst my boyfriend had the phad thai. The food took ages to arrive by which point I was nearly eating the napkins.

Disappointingly some of my beef teriyaki was still half raw and when I pointed this out to one of the waitresses she looked shocked that I didn't want raw beef. My bf's phad thai was okay, nothing special.

Aside from the raw beef, the other sore point of the night was the couple sitting at the next table. I was unable to enjoy my food because the girl could not stop staring at me and what I was eating. I guess that's what happens when you choose to starve yourself to try and emulate footballers wives. Is it really worth being stick thin when all you can do is stare at other people who don't have an issue with eating proper food?!

I was a bit sceptical about eating at this restuarant as I had heard some unpleasent things about it. However, I was impressed by the variety of different foods they had on the menu, ranging from Japanese to Thai.

Being a lover of Japanese food, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki bento box, which arrived really quickly. The food was great although the chicken teriyaki was lacking a bit of oomph!. For starters, I would recommend the satay chicken which was cooked to perfection and the satay sauce is just as delicious.

If your looking for a cheap restuarant that offers good food, then Ikkyusan is the place.
