Kimiz is one of my favourite restaurants in the area.
It has a takeaway section at the front and a dining area to the rear. The chef is semi open to the dining room and the huge charcoal grill is boldly on display- the smell of meat and vegetables sizzling away tantalizing your senses while you wait at your table.
The waitresses bring you small pieces of fresh bread, warmed through nicely with a bit of olive oil and vineger to dip. i often order chilli sauce at this point to liven things up.
For starter Lahcmachun is highly reccomended. This is, put simply, a thin turkish pizza with minced lamb and various herbs on top. A mountain of mixed salad is brought over, and you dig in. The pizza is cut into fours and the best way to eat it in my opinion, is to make a wrap with the pizza, filling it with salad and chilli sauce. The lamb on the pizza and delecate hint of mint in the chilli sauce combine brilliant for an instant- then the heat from the fresh chilli begins to creep through. One starts to panic, but alas, you are saved by the cool crunchiness of the lettuce and tomato.
The mixed grill is a safe bet for main course. A good size plate containing cop shish- smaller cubes of grilled lamb than usual shish, equally as delicious. Large chunks of grilled chicken adorn the plate along side gently charred lamb chops with only a small amount of fat on the outside. You then get a small helping of lamb and chicken doner. Something to bear in mind is that the doner meat from a proper turkish restarant is ona different scale to that you may find in a takeaway frequented by the drunken masses. I'm talking about the lukewarm slices of grey matter hanging limply over the side of a soggy pitta, the kind when the grease runs down your face and cascades off of your chin like a water fall. The doner they serve here is real meat, and when you cut it you can actually see it come apart. I cant describe it, it just is the real mccoy.
Finally I have to talk about the kofte kebab. This is a dish of minced lamb, with chilli, onion, parsley, mint and goodness knows what other secret delights. This is always cooked to perfection, smokey on the outside, spicy, fragrant, melt in the mouth soft on the inside.
This is served with a side helping of rice, which to be honest merely serves as a filler when you have a meat masterpiece on the other side of the plate.
Overall I find the service good and the food great.
I would say a visit here is worthwhile!
