Hummus Bros Restaurant In London

I've been a long-time Hummus Bros customer. I'm writing this review in response to the person below who is complaining about the taste of the hummus/houmous (I'm not here to quibble about spelling). Anyway, I agree that the hummus at hummus bros is different than the supermarket stuff.

But part of it is that they don't have any preservatives (citric acid, etc.). It's all made fresh the day you eat it. Also, they don't put any garlic in the hummus (a bit unusual, I agree). But they put a garlic sauce on the side. Usually they give it to you with every hummus dish, but if not, you just need to ask for it. It's free. They also do a nice chilli sauce, which is also free. Once you add on the garlic sauce, the hummus changes flavour dramatically. I think that you were probably just missing some of the garlic.

Anyway, I love these guys and so do the vast majority of my friends. Maybe the guy below just went on an off day or something. I don't know.

I have to admit i am highly dissapointed at this restaurant. Me and my cousin love houmous, we love it to bits, so when we found a restaurant that is based on serving houmous we coudn't wait to go. however when we arrived and finnaly got our houmous it tasted like mushed up lentils which tastes quite grotesque.i have never had houmous which tasted worse, even the low fat type is creamier and more delicious.

so sorry houmous bros im not coming back unless u change the taste of your houmous its , to put it plainly disgusting.

The only good thing was it was reasonably priced although id rather spent the money on something else.

I went to Hummus Bros last night and I was not sure what to expect! I had heard very mixed reviews about the place but a friend was desperate to try it so we went.

I'm now in two minds about the place. The service was good, the waiters were friendly and patient (it took us all a while to decide what we wanted!). Also we were given a really nice complimentary dessert after the meal.

Before I get to that though, the hummus itself was okay. To be honest, I have made nicer hummus myself! It is probably because there is no lemon and garlic in the hummus (they do serve a very small dish of lemon and garlic juice on the side but between four people it wasn't enough).

Although I found the hummus heavy going to finish, I loved the chunky beef topping, I was tempted to ask for more! I can't comment on some of the other toppings but seriously the beef was great. The pitta that came with the meal was also very nice.

After the meal we were given two complimentary plates of malabi (something like a panna cotta) which we really enjoyed! The date honey was a really good match for it and I have high hopes for the other desserts they do there if they are as good as that one.

As I said I am in two minds about the place. The service was good, the dessert was very tasty (and well presented) and the beef was very well cooked. However the hummus, the 'main attraction' was lacking, which is why I couldn't give the food a 10.

Nice atmosphere though, very relaxed which was probably down to the friendly and laid back staff. Not bad for money, cheaper for lunch. If I go back it might be then rather than for dinner!

Big fan of this place. I love hummus and they do it well. Service is always very friendly, attentive and helpful. I wish all waiters in London were this good.

Only thing I would say is that it could be cheaper and I'd like to see more vegetarian options. Overall though, this is a great place and I find myself going back a lot!

Love this place. The food and service are excellent time and time again. Make sure you keep some room for the malabi dessert - it's delicious.

Delicious & healthy food, friendly staff, cheap prices. I'm not sure what what more one can expect. The interior is very minimal and sleek. The focus is entirely on the food. You get a nice round ring of hummus/houmous/humous (spelling?) and then you pick a topping to go in the centre and it comes with some fresh out of the oven pitta bread. They have wholemeal and white pitta, but to get the the white you have to ask when you order. Otherwise they just give you wholemeal by default.

And they also have some things that aren't on the menu, like falafel which is really good. And make sure you try their dessert, the Malabi. It's so good!

For all those who complain about the lack of garlic in this houmous, I'd like to point you in the direction of that little glass bowl that comes with your dish- this is lovely garlicky lemon juice which you put in yourself! So you can decide how much you fancy on your dinner. The houmous itself is glorious: creamy and nutty and very tasty.

I've been here lots of times, it's a real bargain and the service is always super, very warm and welcoming: staff often upgrade your portion from a small to a regular size for free and give out free fresh mint or jasmine tea at the end of your meal. In winter the warm chunky beef topping goes down well and the greek salad is delicious (though strangely never contains olives) and if you can squeeze it in at the end, the malabi is a yummy pud.

Great for a cheap, fresh and speedy meal.

For the same amount as a regular serving at Hummus Bros, I might be able to get more mass elsewhere. A sandwich, a meat topped salad, soup and bread or some such... but certainly nothing as original, gratifyingly filling or as delicious.

The food is perfect every time, despite limited (or maybe because of) limited choices. But when they say caramelised onions? They mean it. The spice-topped ground sesame paste? Great complement. Good and friendly service? Always.

Not only do they have the occasional give-away drink or extra but a patron's loyalty is rewarded with a 'get your 12th dish free' card.

I'm impressed every time.

They do one thing and they do it well: hummus. The toppings are really good and Im surprised that guacamole tastes so good with hummus but now I would definitely recommend it. Also, you should try the hot spiced apple juice. It's similar to american apple cider. It's really good.

My girlfriend tried the fava beans. They were good, but I really preferred my guacamole. Service was probably the friendliest since I've moved to London. The decor was a little plain, but with such tasty and inexpensive food, who cares?

Monday, September 22, 2008 - While in college, two friends decided to pass on the usual fat & furious delights and wanted do healthy. So they wandered into a ’specialist’ food shop, picked up hummus, olive oil and pitta bread. One of them said “I could eat a meal like that everyday”. The other one stopped talking, an idea lit between the two heads and Hummus Bros was born.
