Per my previous review, I did indeed go back to A Taste Of India last week and the experience has definitely put me off ever going again. It was 6.30pm and there were no other customers in the restaurant but Mr Grumpy Waiter pointed at a very small table for two. I politely asked if we could sit at a larger table and although he grudgingly pointed us to a larger one, he made such a moody fuss about about it before slamming the menus on our table, that we walked out.

I have probably been to this restaurant about a dozen times over the last 5 years and what always strikes me is the inconsistency, which is probably what makes me come back.
Sometimes the food is amazing - particularly the vegetarian thali which has the best dahl dish I have ever tasted - but sometimes it is just average and sometimes it appears whatever you are eating, has come from the supermarket and has just been zapped in the microwave.
It does have more of a cafe than a restaurant feel about it and this is reflected in the prices so the bill is always reasonable. But I have to agree with those reviewers who have described the indifferent staff and would also add.
Separately, I would say:
- The ladies toilet needs a thorough clean and a decent ventilation system installed.
- Stop re-heating poppadoms.
- To the waiters - please don't open any wine before it is brought to the table: they once brought an opened bottle that tasted vile and I said I wouldn't drink it which really annoyed the waiter. However, if he had brought it to the table un-opened, I would have rejected it anyway because of it being 6 years old - vintage champagne it was not - just something that had been at the back of the wine fridge for too long....
Having said all that, 6 months will pass, me and some friends will take a chance and try it again.

Don't let the appearance of Taste of India put you off. The space is clean but very basic, more suited to a caf than a restaurant, which concerned me a little when I first walked in. The staff is friendly, and the food is just amazing.
Everything we ordered was incredibly tasty. The talis are great value, the chicken was melt in the mouth tender, the lamb perfectly cooked, every sinlge dish we tried was really delicious. It would not take much to make this a really top venue - a bit of TLC, white fabric table clothes. Not that it matters - we'll return for the very, very good food regardless.

We visited this restaurant in the same week we visited the nearby Mogul. This place came off worse, especially food-wise (the interior is also somewhat shabbier.) The dishes were ok at best; the worst being a pulpy lentil dish where the garlic was burnt and the chili the menu promised entirely missing. Maybe passable, but definitely inferior to its neighbour.
