Origin

Visited with a friend on a quiet evening (I suspect due to bad weather). I say quiet, all except for a very loud table at one end of the restaurant. When asked to be moved, the restaurant handled this well and discreetly.

This is a good-looking restaurant with a relaxed but considered atmosphere and great staff. The real reason to visit, however, is for the outstanding food.

The diverse menu is interesting and brings together superb quality ingredients. Combined with excellent presentation, dishes served are I think some of the best in London (reaffirmed by the accolades the place has received).

From experience, service can be a little slow - but this is partly to be expected from food that is this well-prepared. Anyway, throughout, the staff are extremely pleasant and attentive.

Highly recommended and will definitely return.

Fantastic food. We went for the January special retox/detox offers, £20 for 3 courses. A couple of caveats on these set menus: the portions might not be big enough for those with larger appetites (though retox is very rich), and you either have one set menu or the other (unless you can persuade a friend to swap courses!) so check everyone is happy with the menu before you go. The service was a bit offhand, though not so much as to be a problem. Tables nicely spaced, atmosphere relaxed tho' smartish. Without the special offer I imagine this place could be quite pricey, we paid £44 a head which included service, a cocktail and half a bottle of wine each, but I will definitely be returning, the food was faultless.

Had a great evening last night at Origin. We took advantage of the recent 'Times' promotion offer for the 'Taster' menu - 6 courses with 6 glass' of wine. It was superb. The food was great the service excellent and the restuarant and bar had a great ambience. Would certainly go again.

One of the best restaurants I've eaten at. Staff are attentive and knowledgable, ambience and atmosphere very good. At £120 for two (including wine at £30 which was nothing short of perfection in a bottle) it may seem expensive but the food is sublime. The monkfish and red wine risotto was almost as good as sex! As a place to eat this is highly recommended.

I've eaten at Origin a couple of times (and quite a few times when it was called Thyme, in clapham).

This is the first restaurant I have eaten in that I can say the food is toe-curlingly good! I appreciate the concept of a taster menu, however, there are times that I have wanted to order the whole meal again, just out of pure greedy pleasure.

I recommend this restaurant highly. It's one of the highlights of London and deserves full page ads in national newspapers... although it's probably better to keep it just between us!!

A friend from New York had actually heard about Origin and told me to check it out. I was very impressed. Great service. Great food (the best risotto I've ever eaten). And really reasonably priced since everything on the menu comes in a small and a large size, which is perfect for smaller eaters. Really good and I will definitely return.

Went to this restaurant mid-week for a nice dinner with the other half. First impressions were very good. The bar is open plan and premium looking. Cocktails are nice if a little dear.

We went for 6 starters instead of 2 starters and a main each. It was a good choice as we got to experience a whoole range of wonderful dishes. The venison and mullet were especially good!

The time taken to serve the courses was over long in my opinion but the food did make up for this. We found out later that the kitchen was chef down so maybe this impacted on the service.

Definitely worth a visit. I'll be going back again.

Went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend. What can I say - WOW! The restaurant was formal without being stuffy, funky without being sloppy and the service was good, understated and prompt. The food was fantastic as well. The mallard.....mmmmmmmm. I would recommend you go and at £90 for a two course meal with wine and liquers it is a lot cheaper than its peers.

Went here for a pre-theatre dinner and were impressed by the menu, presentation, taste, and overall atmosphere. The menu was reasonably priced. My only complaint was with the main dish of skate I ordered, which was bony and difficult to eat -- the chef could have done better with it -- but that won't stop me from returning. Seems like a great place to impress a date, impress the parents, or just enjoy an elegant night out.
