FIRST at The Athenaeum

Great setting for a romantic dinner at the newly refurbished Damask restaurant.Sumptuous silks & velvets in warm colours with intimately arranged tables made it a cosy dining experience & I suspect will be a hit with the ladies. We took advantage of a London-Eating deal which overall was fantstic value based on 'you get what you pay for.My crab cake starter was a decent size made with fresh crab. The hearty sized lamb main was simple yet tasty but could have done without the sharp picked onions to bulk out the shallots. The cold greengage crumble served on a hot plate seemed to be the wrong way round and lacked custard but hey the waiters were friendy and helpful and non intrusive (so much so that we didnt get offered the wine menu at any point throughout the three courses) Had I paid full price from the a la cate menu, I would have been quite disappointed with the service and knowledge of the waiters but as it was, I left the restaurant satisfied that the Athanaeum had had my custom and not some other expensive designer London restaurant. Would I dine there again? Difinitely.
