We went to the restaurant on a Sunday, early evening as a party of 4 people. The restaurant had about 5 other diners eating there.

Two of us had steak and chips, which was virtually inedible. The chips were soggy in the middle and tasted of stale old cooking oil on the outside. They were also fairly cold. The steaks were fatty, badly cooked, and coated in a pepper sauce which had a chemical taste hard to pinpoint.

One of us had fish cakes, which were obviously out of the freezer - this was obvious because the middles of them were still cold.

One of us had duck, which wasn't bad, but the side order of green beans had the stale cooking oil taste again, with a hint of chinese takeaway taste about them.

The wines we wanted were out of stock.

The meal came in at an average of £20 a head, which we all agreed was terrible value for money. I wish we'd have gone to KFC.

However, the room is beautiful with marble pillars and chandeliers. The staff were attentive and friendly. It was such a shame that the food was so utterly terrible.

This restaurant is simply outstanding. Fitz Roy Dolls and its team made the chef I am today. I was once a part of this great team!!!
