The Ark

Isn't it amazing that the one "poor" review of this wonderful restaurant chooses to reamain "anonymous". If you really think so badly of the place you should have the bottle to put a name to your comments!

As I have said in my direct reply to the comment - I visit here quite often - at least once a month and although I would agree that it is a bit expensive, the portions are big compared to similar restaurants. Service is generally good - most staff are friendly and well informed - there is a girl who can sometimes be a little abrupt and slow to serve, but other than her me and my wife have always been made to feel very welcome and have always enjoyed our meals.

My wife is very fussy and usually the first to complain, but she has never had cause to do so at The Ark.

I highly recommend this restaurant and it's well worth the wait if you can't be served straight away.

16 July - ate last night at Ark - what a place! Superb! Fish simply cannot be cooked any better and the buzz/service there is great due to the warm and friendly staff. I live in Dunstable and can honestly say that there aren't many places I'd do a round trip of 80 miles for...

Don't bother !!!!

Top prices for mediocre food...........used to be a regular at the Ark, but in the last 6 months they have become complacent and standards have dropped. Food is poor quality, badly cooked and whilst prices have increased, portions have shrunk. If you like good fish, eat elsewhere !!!

What a gem of a restaurant! Without a doubt one of the best places I've eaten.

Not only are the staff friendly and accomodating, the venue lovely, and the atmosphere relaxed, but most importantly the food is great.

I've been to The Ark twice now and both times I have been extremely happy with the food (all three courses of it).

I will absolutely be going again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to a friend.

Definitely worth the little extra you pay for the food.

this is the continuation of the sea shell in marylebone and faulkeners in dalston. since those premises were left by the owners, they have all gone to pot.

i sincerely believe that whilst not cheap (quality was never cheap) this is the very best restaurant of its kind in the south of england and the pride in obtaining the very best cuts of fish is hugely appreciated by the regular afficianados.

i live 250 yards from the ark and would have eaten there at least 100 times. I have only ever complained on one occasion and that was regarding the supply of "fountain" coca-cola for ones drink. Needless to say, the very next time i visited, i was offered gratis a chilled bottle of same with my preferred two cubes of ice and two slices of lemon......... totally refresshing on a summer's evening.

if you can get there, do. i am sure you will enjoy not only the food but the excellent, cheery and professional service at your table.

the signature dish is the smoked haddock topped with a poached egg atop a healthy portion of mash surrounded by a delicious sauce. ten out of ten
