George's Fish Bar

Georges is situated right on Portabello, albeit at the less trendy flea market part near Golborne road. It was my local fish and chip shop for quite a while (and seemingly Jamie Olivers judging from all the pictures of him frequenting there!).
The fish is good with crisp light batter. The chips are large thick cut (but not wedge shaped). They do an entire range of food from kebabs to ribs to burgers, but I tend to stick to the fish (and the yummy ribs!).
The only issue I have with the place is the price. The fish alone is the price of fish and chips at other places. But that said, it's quite a consistently good fresh piece of cod that I end up with. Occasionally, it's so fresh its sweet to the taste.
It's a local fish and chip shop regardless of the copious amount of tourists on market days so you can get some real characters in there. The staff have been there quite a while so they're very efficient and dealing with the large queues that form at times (and some of the characters too!).
