No one seems to have reviewed this place for a long time or as positively as it deserves, so here's a review just to confirm the very high ratings are quite right! This is one of the most authentic Italian eating places in London - it has the feeling of an Italian country osteria, rough and ready decor, very relaxed atmosphere, remarkably good food. The range of dishes is fairly narrow - roast chicken to share, a risotto, a pasta, a roast, a salad, a big soup and maybe one or two other things each day, as well as big breakfasts and a children's menu that is also proper home-cooked food and home made ice cream and a couple of simple desserts to follow. The menu is chalked on a board and changes all the time.

The quality is extremely high - everything very fresh and beautifully cooked, some of their dishes are of a standard that would be hard to distinguish from dishes available at about 5 times the price at the River Cafe. Yesterday at lunchtime i had a fantastic Tuscan sausage and rocket risotto, my partner home made spinach and cheese tortelloni that were completely unrelated to the ones you buy in a supermarket and adorned with a fantastic sauce that featured amaretti biscuits! Our very particular almost 3 year old son made very short work of pasta with great fresh pesto and home made ice cream.

If you have a small child, this is one of the best places in London to have lunch in terms of the combination of relaxed, child-friendy atmosphere and great food, as well as pigs to visit after lunch and a variety of events at the farm and cafe, including Sunday drop-in pottery sessions next to the cafe. Even if you don't have a child in tow, it's well worth braving the toddler hordes for this quality and value for money. Service sometimes gets a bit chaotic when it's busy, but is invariably friendly.
