Monsoon Restaurant

My husband & I came to London for the weekend to celebrate his 50th birthday. Being curry lovers particularly Bangladeshi food, I trawled the web for reviews for Brick Lane. I liked the sound of Monsoon and we were not disappointed. We were welcomed with a smile, swiftly seated, our drinks order was taken within 5 minutes and food ordered in soon after. The food was DELICIOUS, & HOT. Portion sizes were larger than average. It is one of the tastiest curries I have eaten. Considering how busy the place was too we were never made to feel as though we needed to 'hurry up' as our table was required (a feeling you often get in busy indian/bangladeshi restaurants). The bill was a very respectable £34 for 2 huge starters, 2 delicious curries, 2 rice, 1 side dish, 1 bread & 4 drinks. Real value for money. As we left, we spoke to 'Shamz', the manager, who thanked us for visiting The Monsoon and also gave us a complementary drink for my husbands birthday. The other plus side to this restaurant was they were not touting for trade on the street like so many other places in Brick Lane. A definite MUST VISIT. We will certainly return. A big THANK YOU.

I went to the monsoon restraunt with a some friends for a birthday meal, we were actually realy disapointed with the meals that we ordered. The food was cold, the side dishes were awful. It was a complete and utter waste of money and time.

When i went to The Monsoon, I thought the atmosphere was buzzing and the service was absolutely fantastic! But the food was even better! A melt in the mouth. I just loved. i read the reviews and just had to come. I normally go to these restaurants because my brother loves indian food and when we went to Saffron i thought, never again, but then i discovered Monsoon. I'm a regular now! Really good value for money!

The bad reviews seem rather unjustified - I found this place really nice, nice staff, friendly service, decent food. This is a decent, mid-range curry house, serving good Indian food and offering value for money.
The curry dishes we had were strangely similar to each other with only minor variations in recipe, but nonetheless tasty and substantial. The papart was really nice and crunchy.
At the end of the meal, the restaurant suddenly got busy, they *very* politely asked us if we could move to the adjacent table to finish our drinks, so they could make up a table for a party of six. We didn't complain, but they still offered us a beer on the house for the (minor) inconvenience! Now that is service - nowhere in London have I been offered a beer on the house before.
As for deserts - nearly every restaurant in London buys in deserts, so those photographic menus are typical of Brick Lane. If you want authentic Indian sweets like barfi or jalebi, go to Rusholme in Manchester. You won't get them in London.
This isn't a super-posh place, so don't go in expecting the greatest experience on earth. This is one of the better Brick Lane places, so give it a go.

I went here last week (on a wednesday) and the service was ok but the food was very very poor. I usually eat in Muhib up the road which is pretty good but thought I'd try soemthing else, had a look on this site, saw the reviews and so went.
Rice was cold, naan was cold and looked like it came from tesco express. I also had aloo Gobi which was barely warm, soggy and bland and couldn't taste the spinache in my chicken sag!
I come to brick lane regularly; its is great for part of a night out, cheap dining and great location to move onto bars etc and I never have particularly high expectations of food but this was WAY below par.
They did give us a 25% discount however, which came to around £11 a head, but even this was too much for what was served.

Went there last night - it is awful! The carpets are filthy, the toilets are filthy, God knows what the kitchen is like - Ordered papadoms which were old and tasted stale, the lime pickle tasted dry and dusty - Drank pint of Cobra and left without ordering any main course - service was appalling - talk about put you off Brick Lane

Monsoon is the nicest Indian restaurant on Brick lane. It is family run and the staff are really friendly and will always offer free drinks and good conversation. The food is delicious and the portions are just right! I have dined in many restaurants on Brick Lane but always go back to Monsoon.

Where eat in Brick Lane? Well this is an excellent choice if you are unsure.
It is very clean, food was excellent and fresh. The staff were young and very charming. It has upstairs and was busy at 6.00pm which is a good sign.
