Grafton House Restaurant and Bar

Yes I agree. I have been to Grafton House many times and it was one of my favourite places to go on Sunday. Everything lovely! Food, atmosphere etc. Unfortunately everything has changed (management probably) I have no words how bad me and my friends were treaded. We went there to celebrate our friend birthday it’s not enough we were waiting for food for very long and it end up not as what it used to be and the service was less then poor (to long to describe all mistakes) we were over charged. Because I do not like to complaint I even paid service charge on the top of it. The manager on the duty had no idea of what is going on he was rude and unprofessional – all problems were caused because of his lack of professionalism. After I overpaid he still accused me of leaving the restaurant without paying the bill (funny enough – it was not my bill). Unacceptable!!! It’s sad to say as I really liked this place but there is no way I will go there again.

Have been to Grafton House many times now and always had an excellent meal. However, I must comment that the last few visits have been less successful as the service has been terrible. I don't know if the management has changed but there appears to be a whole new team and they are all aloof and arrogant in their approach. If my wine is to be taken off me and placed in a bucket on the other side of the restaurant I do not expect to have to TRY to attract somebodys attention every time I have an empty glass. The food is still superb but please do something about the waiting staff!

Went for dinner here on Friday night and as much as the food when it arrived was good, the wait wasn't!
We only had one course and it took us a good hour to be served with it. When it arrived, it was very nice, but I think they need to sort out the service. If it's a bit busy, then tell the customer. Usually customers are happy to wait if they are communicated with.
And losing half a glass of wine in my water glass didn't help!
There are better places in Clapham to go for dinner where the food and service are both excellent. Overall it was a pleasant evening, but could be improved upon.

Perfect venue for a small group, I took my friend there for her birthday, there were 6 of us in total. We started at the bar with some lovely cocktails and then moved through to the restaurant for an absolutly fabulous dinner, the food and service were perfect. We went back through to the bar afterwards for some more cocktails and to listen to the DJ and all finished up rather drunk..

Not a bad effort really. I had the clam and cockle veloute to start. It wasn't a veloute but it tasted good, if a little too creamy. However, that was more than offset by a unexpectedly stunning razor clam. Across the table, my friend had the native oysters, which he enjoyed. On appearance alone, they had perhaps spent a little while out of the sea, thereby losing some of their plumpness. For mains, we both had calf's liver with mash and a golden sultana sauce. Again, not a bad dish. The sauce was over-reduced, which made it salty and teetering on the edge of being burnt, and the dish was over-sauced, which had the effect of making the whole thing rather too rich. Desserts were probably the least impressive part of the meal. My banana tarte tatin had clearly been made well in advance and was heated up. The pastry was soggy and the banana had lost any texture it might once have had, instead tasting almost preserved. The chocolate fondant across the table appeared to have the mandatory gooey centre but again, I suspect, probably pre-prepared. On the service side, things are probably a bit haphazard. No obvious system was in place to keep all tables attended, even though no more than a fifth of the tables were occupied. They had lost the keys to their wine storage unit so we were restricted in our choice. That said, the wine list looked interesting, if a little eclectic. So overall, not bad. It doesn't feel like it's trying to be anything other than a mid-priced local. We got up to £60-70 a head with wine, which is getting towards to the top of the mid-priced band. For 10% less, it would be a no brainer. 6.5/10.

What a find, Stumbled across Grafton house after taking a wrong turn in Clapham... Staff were super friendly and attentive, cocktails in the bar were made to perfection and the food was great... If only all wrong turnings led to such great nights out...

Went to eat earlier this week. Food average, service average. The gushing reviews given below with 10 out of 10 across the board are ringers I think. Clapham High Street and the immediate area surrounding it is not known for its gastronomic brilliance. There are better places around, try Cinnamon Cay then try and give theb Grafton a good review!

I, and my family, have eaten at Grafton House on several occasions during the last year. Regardless of the day of the week or time of day our experience has always been one of great food and service. Disregarding price for a moment, the food has always been very good, but at these prices the value for money is tremendous. It costs more to have Sunday lunch in Gloucestershire than at Grafton House. We look forward to our next visit when we are in town
