I went to the Thailander last nite with my family for a meal.
The food was great and the service was superb, the whole family had a wonderful time - we were allowed to take pictures with the ornaments and statues which was very nice.
The starters took around 10 mins to come out and the Main course took around 20 mins to come - its nice to know that the food is cooked fresh and not microwaved, the food was full of flavours and you could tell that alot of effort had been used to cook the food - the ingredients were top notch.
The restaurant was a gr8 place and I would recommend it to everyone.

I have lived in the Maryland / Stratford area for 4 years. I am in my late 20s & occasionally cant be bothered to cook so I like cheap little restaurants where I can eat on my own, take my time over my meal & relax with a beer.
I eat at the Thailander once a month & heres why: The food is really good, fresh, carefully prepared & authentic. When I say fresh, they sometimes run out of things on the menu which is definitely a good sign.
There is no service charge & the food is well priced. £8.50 for Red Curry & Rice. £6.50 Phad Thai. etc. You can pay with a card too.
The beer comes straight from the pub next door, so you can choose from a load of draft lagers that are all fresh & cheap at about £3.30 a pint.
The service is very chilled, the waitresses tend to be thai girls with limited English, always friendly, smiley & helpful. This kind of adds to the authenticity. It feels like a real "one-off" local
Thai restaurant rather than a commercial venture. There is an old girl who seems always to be knocking about who keeps everything in check & writes out the bills in a very fine hand.
The decor is slightly cheesy but I quite like that too, They make an effort with little touches like the carved furniture; bamboo shaped cutlery; a candle on each table & little hand-carved carrots in the side salads. There is also a kind of scary looking buddah at one end of the room that looks like something out of a chuck norris film. This all makes up for the fact that the place shares the same building (and conveniences) as the eastern european lager bar next door. A totally separate establishment which specialises in cheap lager, live sports (courtesy of a dubious satellite link up) & heavy euphoric euro-trance music. The clientele are totally different in both places & they are well separated off from one another. Thurs / Fri & Sat sees the Thailander gets about half full. I have never needed to "book".
All in all the Thailander is nothing to write home about, I heard it described as the "best restaurant in london" in one review below which is hilarious. It is a good little place to eat out without breaking the bank. I wouldn't take anyone there on a first date but in a way that's what I like about it! I would happily recommend it for a couple who fancy a mid week treat.
p.s. I was in the news agents two doors down from the Thailander. the other week & I noticed the shop keeper was tucking in to his lunch behind the counter - a plate of "phad thai" served in an oddly shaped plate with a bamboo shaped spoon. Obviously he is also a fan!

I ate at the Thailander tonite with my gf and the food was gr8, very very reasonably priced and the portioned were a good size.
I decided to visit the Thailander due to all the positive comments it has received over the internet - and justifiably so!
It is a beautiful restaurant and the staff are so friendly and polite. The Thailander is the best thai restaurant in London and definitely worth the trip - spread the word.

My wife and I have been dying to find a good Thai restaurant in Stratford and I think we found it last night.
The Thailander restaurant is next to or maybe even connected to a bar of the same name as the entrance is separate and just next door. The great thing is we barely heard any noise from the bar except for the occasional cheer when a goal was scored.
We were pleasantly surprised to find a spacious, clean and well decorated place with Thai influence; even the tables and chairs appeared to be nicely carved with Thai details. The staff were very nice too and the ambience just perfect.
Our starter comprised of a Shared Platter for Two and a chicken Tom Yum soup. Our main meal was Pad Thai and Pad See Iew noodles. Dessert was assorted flavors of ice cream. Very filling as portions were of a very good size.
In a sentence .. the food was delicious and we are definitely coming back and bringing our friends and family.

This has to be one of the best Thais I have ever eaten! It is in the most unsuspecting location and when my boyfriend said this was the place we were eating I was a little hesitant but I defintely had no need to be. The food was fantastic, fresh, home made with lots of flavour and the price reasonable. A review mentioned that they waited for so long for their food but that is very typical of Thai places as the food is made FRESH and NOT straight heated up in a microwave. If I were to cook this at home it wouldnt be ready in 10 mins!!! Also when the restaurant is so quiet everything has to be made to order. I would definitely recommend this place but its such a shame that they dont seem to have an influx of customers, possibly due to the location. Spread the word amongst the locals as i guarantee that once you eat here you will return.
