your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne

After reading about Dune elsewhere, two colleagues and I decided to give it a try on 5/9/06 despite some of the previous negative comments. We chose not to eat and opted for drinks and tapas instead. My colleague ordered a cocktail and was informed that they didn't have all the ingredients for it. We ordered a bottle of white wine that wasn't available and had to opt for something more expensive which they weren't prepared to charge us at the lower rate for the wine we orignally asked for. Wine the wine finally arrived some 15 minutes or so later it come with an apology that it was warm and therefore we had to endure two glasses of warm wine before it could cool down. The service was slow despite it being very quiet (5.30pm) and the waitress needs to attend a Customer Care Course in our opinion. The only saving grace was that the tapas was tasty. Needles to say we didn't pay the service charge when the bill arrived which caused some conern. Needless to say we won't be returning to Dune I'm sorry to say.

A strange place, seems to have changed alot since it first opened, and not really for the better. The personal touch the previous team gave at Dune seems to have all but gone. The staff seem bored and disinterested. Not a particually nice experience

Staff in bar area did not know that the Theatre Royal was next door to them.

Bar man did not know the correct way to make a gin and tonic. 4 people in our party.

Our choice from three starters on the early bird menu, fried squid & scallops was not available, 10mins after complaining it suddenly became available! No asparagus at all in asparagus salad starter! We waited over 30mins before starters arrived which made us late for the theatre. Main course was poor.

We ate in Dune last night as a table of five and were thoroughly disappointed. The service was awful, I don't mind things being unavailable on a menu, but I think that the staff should tell you that in advance, not once you have spent half an hour choosing what to order. The wine we ordered was unavailable as were two starters, two main courses and one dessert, this reduced the menu considerably. Starters were ok, however one persons was served 10mins after the others and even then it was the wrong thing. I had salmon for main, which was very overcooked and therefore dry, a friend had fillet steak and said that was ok. We declined dessert as they didn't have our choice and opted for coffee. The coffee was stone cold and a replacement took another 15mins to appear. We asked for the bill 4 times and after waiting 30mins for it to appear I had to leave friends to wait as I was now rushing for the train. Some of this awful service could have been more understandable if the place was busy, but there were only 3 other tables all night.

I was very intrigued about this restaurant after having read all the positive reviews so I tried it out for a pre-theatre meal. It was a very mixed experience. When I called up I was told the restaurant was fully booked but the staff wanted to check and a few minutes later I had a call back to say that they could accommodate us after all. Hmm. We arrived and I was very positively impressed by the interior of the bar area but that it is where most of the positive aspects stopped. We were taken to the main dining room which was very warm. The staff were generally attentive and extremely friendly. Unfortunately there were too many downsides. There were only five tables occupied, so I am not sure why I was initially told the restaurant was fully booked. Our aperitifs took over ten minutes and arrived after the starters and wine. I also found them quite pricey. The menu looked very tempting and interesting but we opted for the theatre menu because we did not want to spend too long. That menu was a bit dull and the food was rather mediocre. We had a chicken supreme. The chicken was nicely cooked but rather plain and the potato was still a bit hard. Nothing to write home about. I would like to try it again for a proper meal, however, the absolute downside were the gents toilet, which rather made me not want to come back. Very small with a guy sitting in there to help you turn on the tap and pass you a paper towel. That was not so bad, but it was that this guy was sitting very close to the urinals and if you had to use the cubicle he could hear every little sound. Very intrusive and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Also felt very sorry for that chap. I would strongly suggest to the restaurant to solve this differently if at all possible. It very much affected my experience negatively. I was also slightly put off by the final bill. We had per person, one aperitif, a two course pre-theatre meal and a glass of wine with one of us having an espresso and the bill came to £60 which I find rather steep. Shame really because I can see the potential in this place.

We were looking for a quick bite before going to the theatre, and were thrilled when we were seated immediately. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The prices were reasonable. We just felt bad that in such a relaxed atmosphere, we had to eat & run so quickly. We ate at another high end restaurant a few days later, and I can say that although the food was delicious, our meal at Dune was better and at considerably less expense.

Wow! I love this place. Great food, great service, very reasonably priced but most of all an absolutely wonderful relaxing ambience, which is such a surprise in the heart of the West End. A real gem.

Was there Last Friday. Great ambiance, nice decor, delicious food. Finally a proper Relaxing Lounge Bar restaurant in the West end where the staff make feel really welcome. We were impressed...!!! Not yet very busy, but think is going to be a top destination very soon.

I went here with a few of my friend's last weekend and none of us were that impressed. We left disappointed. The food took forever to get and when we finally got it the steak was so dry I had to send it back. The place was also half empty and therefore quite dull. The only good thing was the prices.
