The Village Taverna

Being a Greek is understandably difficult to find a place that is "as home". I dined at the The Village Taverna yesterday evening along with my partner and two friends, all of us Greeks. I have to say that the starters were nothing like the real thing, neither were the main courses, the problem not being in the food quality which was really good, but in the texture and the actual taste of the foods. However the atmosphere was perfect, a really nice place to spend some quality time with loved ones. I will not be returning, as for £20 per head I'd like to taste something original, but I would definetely reccomend this place to foreigners who want to try a different cuisine "adjusted" to european style.

Absolutely excellent. My partner and I took a chance on going for something Greek but didn't want to go to the well-known and established West End restaurants. We did a quick search on the Internet and leaving from North London took the risk.
The staff were very pleasant- nothing was too much trouble. We were advised of seating outside and with the weather being hot for once it was almost being transported abroad. Portions were generous and the pricing considerably surprising for the quality food.
Super - 9/10

I've been to the restaurant today with a group of friends, and I must say that it has been a good experience. We arrived very late for lunch, but even so, the manager allowed us to have lunch, the food was good, quick service and good manners and it is not very expensive. It is good value for money.

I went last week (29-10-06)with my husband and I must say it was such a let down: my lamb chop (souvla) was dry and the meat didnt' seem fresh to me. I admit I am a demanding customer, but we all know it isn't difficult to find good lamb in the UK! My husband asked for a mixed grilled of pork lamb and chicken and most of it was either too dry or half burnt.
We didn't bother sending it back fearing that we would be given another dish equally badly cooked.
We didn't pay much, but even £40.00 seem too much when the food is so totally disappointing. At least, though not friendly, the service was quick, we couldn't wait to leave. I hope they'll shut down soon.

After 6 years, I have tried this one again with a friend. We went yesterday evening (16th June 2006) for the meze (meat version). Strangely enough 1 fishdish (Calamaris) appeared as well. My friend liked that, I didn't. The last meat dish was very dry and not tasty at all.
We had to ask 3 times for the bill and nobody even did bother to say 'goodbye'!.
The staff was not particular friendly. It's not difficult even to ask if we enjoyed our meal or so.
For me, maybe in 6 years time I'll go back!
