La Vie en Rose

Just got back from my first trip to this fine establishment.

The food and wine were delicious, well presented and very reasonably priced. The service friendly, relaxed and caring.

The outdoor seating was very pleasant too.

I've never bothered to review a restaurant online before but this place was faultless, I couldn't help myself.

I had supper at La Vie on Tuesday evening after several months away. Amazingly not very busy when the food and service are both really great I started with the Charcuterie Board - very French Followed by a steak - make sure you ask for the it to be cooked "rare". And the Rose is to die for. This restaurant must be the best value for money in Broadway Market; maybe in the East End.

We were at La vie en rose last Saturday lunch, the food was nice, the only disappointment was the service. Having worked in the trade it is clear to me that the front of house is working without any leadership. I am sorry to say but we were expecting to get a better service after all, isn’t the name of the restaurant La vie en rose? Should t its name apply to the quality of the service towards the costumer? The staff does not look professional and seems to be more interested in their mobile phones or computer rather than the well being of the costomer. To me it makes no sense of having good food if you don t have the right service with it. This restaurant needs a brave Frenchman, a true leader with the ‘va va voom’ to make this restaurant a true local success.

We are La Vie regulars & went there last Tuesday.

The rabbit fricasse was really good, as were the scallops. Great chips as always.

The Gamay @ £3 for a small glass was excellent value, as was the Chardonnay @ the same price. I see La Vie now offers a larger glass @ £4. Good idea.

It is always a surprise that the restaurant is not full when, in my opinion, it represents the best value for money in Broadway Market.

La Vie en Rose is a cosy and spacious restaurant with a nice looking bar and lovely big windows overlooking Broadway Market and Regent's Canal.

Whilst the staff is nice enough, none of them give the impression to have worked as a waiter for more than a few days. I suspect that they are not given any training or elementary customer awareness. Apart from the fellow behind the bar it is hard to get a hello when you come in or a "thank you, hope you come back soon" when you pay.

Whilst the food in general is at best mediocre, the details are the worst: bread is of the supermarket pre-baked variety and mayonnaise is not nice and French (you can whip up a pretty good mayo in 45 seconds flat) but Hellmann's, served in it's jar...

Wine is sold by the glass as well as by the bottle, but wine glasses contain only the European style 125ml. Whilst this in itself is great, charging the same as a 175ml glass in other restaurants is a little cheeky.

There are some positives about this place though: on a sunny afternoon it is a great place to have a glass of wine on the terrace, with some homemade chips which when they are good are great but unfortunately when they are bad (as they were recently) are awful, half overcooked and half still raw in the middle. Still, worth the risk.

One wonders who owns the place, because they clearly can't spend much time there - with some real desire to make this a local restaurant where you feel welcome and a Broadway Market which is becoming more and more popular, this place should be full every evening during the week just as all the other restaurants on the street, not lie empty as it does now.

What a fantastic little restaurant! I went here on a Sunday night with no booking or expectations, I simply wanted to eat out. The restaurant has a relaxed feel to it and the staff are laid back but attentive, they had no trouble in shuffling some tables around to accomodate us.

The food was absolutely exceptional, I ate Sea Bream Served with Baked Fennel & Celeriac Purée and it was as good a meal as I've had. My friends also continue to rave about the steaks they had.

I've eaten in a number of top end restaurants in London and they're all good for perfect service and good food but I was very impressed with how good the food was in a little laid back restaurant such as this.

I decided to eat the fillet steak on Wednesday evening & what a joy. It was so tender it could be cut with a spoon. My partner had what she called "breathtakingly good pork". Well done La Vie; Broadway Market is becoming the gastonomic garden of England.

And less than £30.

I visited La Vie en Rose situated in Hackney on Tuesday in the evening with a friend of mine. It was amazing to taste authentic french cuisine with excellent service. Overall it was completely value for money for me and if you are a food eater, I would definitely recommend you to visit this place ASAP.
