This is an OK restaurant., serving decent but unexceptional food at very good value prices especially if you take the lunch menu as we did. Our starters ( the list seemed to have more "assembled" items than cooked to order) of eggs benedict and a "Spring Roll" of bacon and mushrooms were both tasty enough, as were the mains of pork belly and confit of duck. What the food lacks is a spark of creativity and intensity which separates the accomplished from the just ok. I did read on another site that someone considered the food to be of "Michelin standard". Well not in my book anyway.
The service started off a little slowly- we were left a little too long without menus and then asked immediateluy what we wanted to drinl before I'd had time to even glance at the wine list. Bread didn't turn up until the straters were served which isn't the way I prefer it. After that though the food arrived nicely paced and served politely.
Its a long, narrow place divided into sections by net curtains - which I hadn't seen before. It isn't particularly plush or atmospheric, but then its not uncomfortable or unpleasant either. The whole thing's a bit middle of the road really, but strong on value for money.
