i went to spend st valentine with my girlfriend for the second year running to med kitchen in gloucester road in wich last year was wonderful so my girlfriend and i after so many places to choose from we decided to go and re-live the same lovely atmosphere toghether again!!!!!!
we ordered the st valentine menu water and wine, every things were marvellous until we`ve got at the sea bass that we both ordered!!!!!!!!!!
read carefully what happened cause i`d like to point out that i`m a chef myself ,anyway the sea bass of my girlfriend was completely raw so i exchanged my plate to see if it was eatable and not to spoil the magic moment we were having!at the end it wasn`t i had to call the waitress to fix the problem and ended up watching my girlfriend eat and me waiting 10 min.after the infinite 10 minutes a different waitress came to the table and brought me the same sea bass that had been put on the grill again and was all bits and pieces put back on the same plate on top of the same wobbly salad only there were some cherry tomatoes missing!!!!!!(i was having a
laugh)!!!!!!!!
i called the waitress back and said that what i was seeing was ridicoulus!!she took
the plate back meanwhile all the tables near mine were looking amazed, the manager came and said:oh! you want a new piece of sea bass?the kitchen is making a new one!!!!! my girl friend had finished since 15 minutes ago!!!!!
they broutgh me a very well done nrw sea bass with some rocket salad and just half of a cherry tomato!!!!!!
we asked the bill,we refused to pay the gratuity but i gave a good tip to the waitress for her good service!!!!!
we didn`t receive any apologies or any kind of invitations or any salutes!!!!!
this was my magic valentines night at med kitchen in gloucester road that made me realize that they don`t have any standard quality points for their dishes and no respect for their customers!!!!!!!!!

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant after a show recently. The decor was warm, but modern and the service was efficient, if not a little overwrought. And that's where my positive comments end. The restaurant was extremely busy, which would usually give a restaurant a 'buzz', instead it was oppressively noisy. The tables were packed so closely together I couldn't hear my boyfriend opposite me over the tables on either side of us. I was also quite disappointed in the limited vegetarian options available - usually mediterranean restaurants have a brilliant vegetarian selection. My boyfriend and I shared a meze platter to start, which was average to say the least. He had the rather unimpressive sea bass for his main and I had the penne arrabiata, usually one of my favourites. The pasta was undercooked - and I know the difference between undercooked and al dente - and the sauce was simply too hot. I have eaten a lot of arrabiata's in my life, and usually the chilli burns, but complements the rest of the flavours in the sauce. In this case, the chilli was so strong it was all I could taste - if I had been eating a meat dish, I would have suspected the chef of trying to cover up the taste of cheap meat.
All in all, this restaurant is okay. It would probably be fine for rowdy groups of people, but there is nothing 'romantic' about it as one review suggested, unless all you and your beloved want to do is gaze into each other's eyes and sip your drinks because you won't be able to hear each other speak and you'd get better food down the road at the Spaghetti House.

As other reviewers have said, Med Kitchen has a great ambiance and looks very cosy from the exterior. My friend and I went there for a quick salad after the National Portrait Gallery on Tues.17th October. The food we both had was very average. Goat's Cheese "Crostini" salad - limp soggy white bread slices with a couple of tomato quarters and avocado wedges with spinach. Shredded Duck salad with "cinammon" plums - the plums had not been anywhere near cinammon and the salad was frisee only (my pet hate) and the duck had a bone in it. Sadly I am writing a letter of complaint, as I was ill in the night, probably due to the
duck! What a shame, as the menu looked really good, but it must have been the chef who had an "off" night.

For a chain, it's pretty good. The food was well cooked and presented and at a reasonable price (especially considering the location). My only two complaints would be that my starter of warm goats cheese with sunblushed tomato salad contained a measley one tomato(!) and that as a vegetarian the choice of pasta dishes was quite limited. Having said that, the spaghetti pomodoro I had was delicious and any gripe at this restaurant can be instantly forgiven on tasting their banoffi pie - exquisite! All in all, a nice simple restaurant serving nice and simple, but crucially well cooked, food.

This is an excellent restaurant. The rooms are bright and simple but with a nice rustic approach with untreated wooden tables and an open plan. The food, considering the very average prices, is excellent. An original and interesting menu offering a good insight into mediterranean quisine. The wine selection, whilst being somewhat somewaht differnt to most mainstream restaurants, is also excellent and reaonably priced. As for the service it is unqustionably excellent, you are made to be felt most welcome and relaxed instantly with a nice level of banter form the staff and lively managers! Med Kitchen has a relaxed, informal and friendly approach to their guests yet still maintains standards of good food with polite and proper service. A very enjoyable experience whether taking a partner, familly or for a quick bite to eat.

Went for dinner with a friend last Friday. Would definitely return - very reasonably priced menu considering the location, good quality food (though nothing exceptional) and decent wine. Service, with the exception of one waitress, was polite, friendly and speedy. Would recommend the steak and confit of duck in particular. A good choice for a pre/post theatre bite or a chilled-out catch up with friends or family.

Went to this restaurant last night with three friends. Fantastic buzz in the place which was packed, staff obviously enjoying themselves as well. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, Great food all round. Highlights included the fresh calamari starter and the chicken with couscous. Great homemade burger as well. Chips excellent. Filo pastry veggie option was a bit of a let down but not worth complaining on the night. Good value wine and for £20 a head a good vale experience. Will go back in the New Year when things are a bit calmer.
