Bavarian Beerhouse

Myself and my partner went there last night, prior to going to see a movie at the Barbican at it was just around the corner sort of.
I was expecting a warm and welcoming place - true to German hospitality, but this place is a dark and cold place, trying to make some atmosphere with a couple of candles on the table.
Upon arrival, the waitress was too busy blabbing to her friend to notice us standing there, eventually she noticed us, and we were seated. It then took her another 15 min to notice that we had not been served - we tried numerous times to get the attention of the staff but no luck - no apology for being kept waitng (if they had been busy - I could have understood this, but the place was half empty!!)
Service was then fairly quick, though maybe too quick as my partner had not finished he starter before the main arrived.
I had the fager snitzchel, which was not great, the meat was dry and tough, though the mushroom sauce on top was lovely!, my partner had the Vienna-style sausage, served with homemade potato salad and mustard, which was just that, and the meatloaf for mains, which looked okay, though a little on thin side.
We werent' there for the evening, so maybe as the night progressed and more beer was drunk, maybe it would have got better.
Will I be going back - nope!

I was really looking forward to my trip last night to the Bavarian Beerhouse. As a regular vistor to Germany, I always make an effort to vistit the local beerhalls and always find the hearty fayre on offer an ideal accompaniment to the excellent beers on tap.
Sadly, my expectations were not met. It wasn't packed, but given that it was a Tuesday night, it was a reasonable trade. The beer choice was quite good, but pretty unadventurous in its selection. Warsteiner was one of the beers though and as its a personal favourite I wasn't really grumbling. Service was prompt, polite amd efficient
The menu was as expected and I ordered bratwurst for starters and the schnitzel for mains. The sausage was fine and the accompanying potato salad was nice. The schnitzel though was appaling. Dry as a bone and flavourless, it felt like it was cooked straight from frozen. I asked the waitress if this is how it normally served to which she replied it was. It wasn't a patch on some of the wonderful home made efforts that I recently experienced in Bamberg a few weeks ago.
The desert was ok but no more. Black forest gateau was ok but the strudel was again disappointing and tasted more like a Sara Lee.
Given my love of things German, I should be a regular here. Unfortunately if last night was anything to go by, I won't.

Being an experience traveller to Germany, the experience of the Bavarian Beerhouse is as close as you will come to the 'real thing' unless you bother to fly out to Germany! Yes, the decor would be more original if dark wood, rather than the pine used here, but as the bar has now windows and is below ground, it would be rather dark without the pine walls!
Service can be slow, but the waitresses were very friendly. Just make sure you order the next round of drinks before you current Stein is nearly finished! The food, whilst not tried look good, plentiful, reasonably priced and genuine.
We went on a Tuesday night, as a 2 an didn't feel intimadated by larger groups in the bar. There was a nice confortable feel to the place, which grew as the more Paulaner we drunk.
Definately worth a visit, especially if you can't get to the 'real thing' often enough!

I was very keen to track down a German style bar and/or restaurant in the London area. I knew that such an establishment would not be easy to find. Unfortunately it proved to be very difficult, with very few options. An urge for an “Ecte Wiener Schnitzel” one Wednesday evening, led to only a few possible establishments. The Bavarian Beerhouse was one of them.
While I liked this establishment (there appears to nothing else similar in London), I felt a bit more effort could have been made with the décor to give it that real Austrian/Germanic feel. While I understand that it gets rather busy there nearer the weekend, on this particular Wednesday it wasn’t. Consequently the service provided by the attentive waitress was very good and friendly; it really was fantastic not having to loiter at a bar and be served at the table as is off course the norm in Germany.
The beer served at the Brewhouse was all brewed in Germany and there was an extensive selection of quality product to be had.
The downside of this establishment was the cost. The beer will have been imported, but the price of £3.60 for a half litre (just under a pint) seemed excessive. The Schnitzel was also not cheap at £10. It did however taste pretty good.

Went there for a birthday party on Saturday and everyone enjoyed it.
Can't say much about the food as only a few of us had mains / snacks but the portions were a bit small. The service was fantastic! Our waitress (her name was Patriza) served us quickly and also entertained us very good. Lovely girl!
The music wasn't that good. They played the same CD a milion times!

A great place to go for a drink - with solid German food - I would recommend the weisswurst and leberkase - don't just stick to the normal wurstplatter!
Not somewhere special to go for a romantic meal, but great fun with some mates!

I don't understadn the negative comments, Food was excellent, service and atmosphere very good and it was good value for money (try the leg of pork, it's huge....). I'm only disappointed about the prices for the "Dirndls"

I'm really surprised to read all the negative comments here. I've been to the Beerhouse several times and have never had a bad experience. It's certainly noisy and lively but that is what you would expect. The food is good and comes in pretty generous portions (although of course not as big as in Germany - but who needs that much food?!) and I have never had to wait for an unreasonable time for it. Drinks have also always come promtly. Waitresses have also been nice and helpful although sometimes a little hard to catch their eye at the end of the evneing or when they are very busy. I don't know if it helps that my boyfriend is German and that I speak German, but we have never been in a group of more than 6 and certainly haven't felt ignored or badly treated. I would agree that the doormen are not super friendly though.

I love this place. I didn't expect the place to come as close to a genuine experience as it does. Service can be a bit slow and the prices a bit high but you don't get Steins and sausages like this anywhere else so thats fair enough.
I've recommended it to a few people and so far no-one has been disappointed!

Wow!!
What an amazing evening!! I held a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend and the waitresses were very effecient, friendly and accomodating.
Their drinks are served in 1 litre beer mugs!
Their food is great though not a huge menu, it is sufficient. Good for the meat and sausage lovers amongst you!! Pretzels, meatballs, sausages of all kinds!!!
The waitresses are very friendly, especially the one we had. She sat down next to us whilst taking our order and gave us a free round of 8 apple schnapps shots!! All the girls sang when I arranged a birthday cake to come out!
It is one of those places you have to go! Very good for nights out with mates and Old Street tube is just a short walk out the door!
Ignore the bad reviews because it isn't bad at all! Definitely will go again to relive the full stomach and druken merriment!
