after reading the raving reviews about Mika, i decided to book a table for 2 for a late saturday lunch.... the place was ideally located just off the portobello market buzz and the weather was sunny, so we got a nice table outside.

after everyone's comments on the beef teriyaki, we decided to share it and get the large selection of Mika sushi as well as a california roll....

Although we expected the food to come in random order, the beef arrived first, which left us wondering on what happened to all the sushi, which arrived 20' later... The beef was presented nicely, but it was anything but succulent.... large pieces of meat who were chewy and a bit fatty at times, to the point where i had to discretely remove them from my mouth with a napkin..... My companion seemed to love it though, so I suppose I was the unlucky one getting the wrong part of the meat....

The sushi was lovely and the house selection is definitely a must for all new customers.... Nevertheless, the california rolls were the worst I have ever had.... The portion was quite big, but each roll was tiny in thickness, as if someone had taken a normal roll and sliced it across in 3 pieces.... The other thing was the fish roe around the roll.... it was probably the only thing that left a bad fishy taste in the mouth, since all the other sushi pieces were fresh and delicious.... A def nono....

Overall we has a pleasant luch, the service was quite pleasing, and the food was indeed value for money, as the whole meal came to just above £30 with service included.

Went for the first time last night with friends. We were all impressed by the quality of the food - not a single thing disappointed us and we are a hard crowd to please.

The only slight criticism I have is that the service is a bit spasmodic - the waitress was very helpful but it was too busy to only have one person waiting at table.

Highly recommended - but don't expect things to be fast if it's peak hour.

Perfect little Japanese restaurant. Hapless but happy is how I would characterize the service. Much more importantly, the sushi was fresh, tasty, and very reasonably priced.

we went to mika on a monday nite and the place was decently busy even for such a slow nite. in general food was superb: you can't miss the rolls (go for the phoenix one, based on battered seafood), sashimi is fresh, and beef teriyaki is gonna melt in your mouth. service was slow-ish but attentive. i can see this place rocking in the summer with the seats outside and the casual athmosphere

I ate at Mika last week for the first time. Was really impressed by the beautiful, clean tastes of the food and the relaxed yet vigilant service. I couldn't tell you what we ate, as friend did all the ordering, but it was all delicious, especially the salads and the soft-shell crab dish. Excellent value at £24 a head for plenty of beautifully presented, delicious food, wine and sake. Highly recommended. Will definitely return.

My husband and I ate at Mika last weekend having walked past on a few ocassions and the food was exceptional.

Tuna Sashimi was fantastically fresh, a real treat.. Brie & Asparagus roll sounded unusual so we thought we'd give it a whirl, and were not dissapointed.

I normally avoid red meat, but we shared a beef terryaki and it was delicious, the beef was superbly tender.

Not much in the way of deserts, but we were told these would be on the menu soon. Sake was a good second choice though!

This has instantly become our favourite local haunt, with lovely staff and great food.

Terrific restaurant, Mika has the most delicious menu and is pleasantly unfussy. Very Japanese. Loved the music, and perched on the corner of Portobello Road was very cool.
