We had a meal yesterday as a birthday pressy from my friends to me. The food wasn't that bad but the service I must say it was terrible. One of the mature lady waitress was not very helpful to us at all. Everytime we spoke to her she just seems to ignore us and seems to be not paying much attentions to what we are trying to say and ask. The atmosphere was ok although there were few times we overheard waitresses talking louder than it should be. Also, the ambience of the music wasn't right for the atmosphere as it was a bit loud which we find ourselves shouting at each other talking.
We are definitely not going back there again and will not recommend to any friends of ours.

A great place for private karaoke rooms but service is very bad and food isn't that great. The staff are unhelpful and clueless so if you're looking for a place with good service then this is definitely not the place to go!! You will be waiting hours and forget about any discount which might be promised because you'll have a hard time getting it when you're there!!

I have to say I was not impressed with this restaurant a couple of years ago, when I came first. I had not been back until the beginning of this year, when I heard from friends that the Dimsum had vastly improved and they actually had a Dimsum chef now.
I have to say that the food is very good. I heard a few months ago that the dinner menu is not much to speak of, but took the plunge of going there for Father's Day, a week early.
The portions are slightly less than at most Chinese restaurants - I expect that is because of the prime location the restaurant is in, so that it serves mainly Western customers, especially those from the hotels nearby. I imagine this is the best value restaurant within hotel and Excel walking distance.
However, the quality of the food was mostly excellent. We asked that no MSG be added to the food, and were impressed that they really didn't add anything and the food was cooked superbly.
The only thing I would now fault the restaurant with, is the service - some of the waiters are very nice. One of them is a little shy and retiring. The shape of the restaurant layout means the few waiters that are there, often will not see people coming into the restaurant when they are at the door. There definitely needs to be a bit more training for the waiting staff.
The toilets are always in good order, an important thing to note about Chinese restaurants, I find. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The amount of parking now available has improved, although that is very difficult to remedy beyond the current situation, because of its location. I have to say, I hope they improve their waiters, because they deserve to do well!

I took my parents and little son there one Sunday for DIM SUM and must says that I am absolutely appalled by the service that this restaurant offer.
Firstly, there is very limited free parking spaces. You can always park at the Excel car park, but this is quite expensive (£6 for 2hr even on Sunday).
Secondly, the waiter and waitress does not seems to have a clue on what they doing. Everytime I see one of them bring out food they have no idea where it should go. It normally takes them a good 2/3 minutes before they eventually worked this out.
As for greeting your customer, we arrive before a group of people and was told to wait at the reception area, but when a table became free the waitress decided to give it to the group that arrived after us. Then when we finally got our table, we waited for an hour and still no sign of our food arriving. At which point we decided to leave.
I definitely does not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Waited 2 hours to get 20% of the food we ordered, this is simply outrageous. It was for a dim sum on Sunday, the restaurant was far from being full, but the staff just does not care about you. We asked many times where our food was, but they did not come up with any answer. The 2 dim sums we got were average. We had to finally leave and go home eat some instant noodles.
Maybe a good place for Karaoke, but definitely not for dim sum or lunches.

I just lived around, so I went there and give it a try, it's expensive, to my standard, but the food is good. yet again, you can get better or same standard food in China town for half of the price. Another thing is, it's a bit far from everything, i don't think anyone is willing to travel there just for a dinner. I had been there several times, if you are a Chinese, and you know what you are ordering, it's good value for money and great taste. I 've been there once with my New Zealand friends, the restraunt "kindly" suggested some dishes that "meet" the western taste, and it didn't turn out good at all. I was very disappointed that time, and didn't go back since. Advice, go there, eat like a Chinese, and you will like it. don't order anything that is deep fried, first of all, it's not Chinese at all, secondly, it's bad for your health and diet.

The food and service was very ggod, but make sure you take a print out of the discount voucher and date you booked, as they tend to forget that you have a discount - spoily the evening for us.

I completely disagree with the review below. Superstar ExCel is one of the best chinese places with good value for money.
Not only is there a great entertainment center, but there is always some special offer. The food is delicious and varied, with dim sim and other delicaies, like lobster.
The staff are always friendly and it is huge, with over 400 seats, so it is unlikely you will feel cramped or have no privacy. In fact, it is pretty romantic.
There are also private function rooms too in case anyone wants a night out. The karaoke is something I would personally recommend:- last time me and my friends stayed up singing classsics all night! There is a mixture of songs though- from contempary to chinese.
My only critism is that including the 12.5% service charge, the staff expect tips: although this isn't a major problem, since the food isn't very pricey to start with.

This is one of the finest Chinese restaurants I have been to for some time. I had a thoroughly delightful experience.
Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable time. They were more than willing to recommend dishes on the menu and I was glad they did as the meal itself was exemplary. I have been to many Chinese restaurants in the London area and it has been some time since I have been so pleasantly surprised with such excellent taste and quality. The atmosphere was great, everyone seemed to be having a good time. This made our own dining experience so much more enjoyable.
This is a fantastic restaurant which is reasonably priced. I would recommend it to everyone.
