Went to restaurant last week and going there tonight with family, the food is so good, the beef was so tender melted in your mouth, i can't say how amazing the food is, go there now, didn't bother me that there was no booze license, just went to the shop and bought a bottle and that made the meal cheaper, also an expresso 99p! Great service.

This restaurant is a little gem. I have dined here more than 10 times and have never been disappointed - well worth a visit. Excellent.

The Windmill provided a delightful family birthday party for us, including decorations and a cake. The atmosphere was busy and friendly, the staff friendly and efficient, and the tapas were delicious and generous in portions. We would warmly recommend the Windmill for such occasions. Friends who had travelled from out of the area wished there was a Windmill nearer them.

Windmill is getting busier and busier by the day. We go reguarly for breakfast - varied menu and great coffee. But the tapas in the evening and lunchtime is really our favourite. Cheap, delicious, big portions of food. When it is too hot to cook in the summer you can get decent salads at almost the same price as buying a pre-prepared one from the supermarket. The relaxed atmostphere means that you can linger over food, and it is very casual so popping in on the way home from work often seems like a good idea.

Not the place to go for swanky food, but a great place to relax when you don't want to cook.

O.K., so I am Portuguese an I am fussy about what I eat. I had a meal the Windmill last April. For a start, this is not a Portuguese restaurant , not even an Iberian restaurant. They do serve custard tarts, but when you have had them in Lisbon you will not bother with anything else. All I can say is that it was ok. None of the food is authentic. It is not cheap (for what you get). The service was very pleasant.

When you compare it with other restaurants in Walthamstow, I suppose it is alright.

Really good little place, very laid back and has a real continental feel to it. The tapas are really good quality and pretty authentic and its much better than the Orford Saloon in Walthamstow Village. You really could sit here all night and while away the time and no-one would try and rush you. Lovely fresh grilled sardines, great patatas bravas and a decent choice of wines at reasonable prices. We had 5 tapas between the two of us, some olives to nibble, a bottle of red and two coffees and it came to £40 - a real bargain! And we were more than full up! Definitely one to come back to time and time again.

Having moved to the St James street/Blackhorse Rd end of Walthamstow I figured we were doomed to trapsing over to Orford Road and booking weeks in advance for a half decent dining experience in E17. Enter the Windmill situated at the west end of High Street. Having read a couple of reviews here we took the 6 minute walk from home to our local Portuguese cafe. Chose the wrong wine but that was our fault. However the tapas was great especially the meatballs in toms sauce and the potatoes Provencal. Also enjoyed the grilled sardines and excellent service from our waitress. It's not at all up market but just right for nipping out to if you don't want to cook but need more than a takeaway on a Friday night. yet to try the daytime pastries.

Not only is the windmill great for tapas etc in the evenings but some of us locals go there every weekend for brunch too. Regina's cakes are to die for and there are always the fabulous Portuguese custard tarts. Some wonderful tapas dishes which you don't normally see - I particularly like the grilled chicory and fennel, the ensopado and the chorizo you grill yourself at the table. As for the cost, 2 of us ate there on Sunday, 6 tapas dishes, bread and one of the more expensive bottles of wine. More food than we could eat and the bill came to £20 per head. You are always guaranteed a warm welcome and some excellent food. This is an oasis in the gastronomic desert that is Walthamstow

Well we have also been more times than we care to mention or admit - sometimes when I am lazy and not cooking twice a week. The food is delicious and tastes home cooked rather than batch cooked. I can eat but 4 tapas and a couple of glasses of wine usually does us and is well within the £15 per head mentined above. In deed it takes a bottle of wine and deserts to take us over the £15 per head. Meatballs, Cod Fish Cakes, Ensopado, lamb Chops, scallops, chorizo potatoes and mussels in hot sauce are heartily recomended. Beed to other more famous restaurants in Charlotte Street and the Cut and both are not as good as the Windmill in our opinion. A gem we can walk to and stagger home from - one of the few restaurants we keep going back to. Oh and the music - you never know what ypu will hear - everything from cheesy europop to country via jazz and crooninng ! Always friendly too - but don't all go we need to be able to get a table. Oh and there is a cash point near St James's Street BR station around corner. Finally Monte Velho red is recomended as is the portugese sparkler (sweeter than I normally go for) that wirks well with the food. In fact We were there last night - 3 tapas - bread a bottle of red (the dearest on the menu!) two brandies £28 Bargain
