Finding a Jewel outside of London!
I have been to Ko Gu Ryo a couple of times now and each time it is such a special experience.
It is not every day that I stumble across a restaurant of this quality and with the level of service and dedication that this family run restaurant provide.
The Food - I am lucky in that I eat at many expensive London restaurants with various "stars" and awards... The KoGuRyo provides a truely fantastic level of food. They have kept to the Korean values and so the food is spicy and hot, with each dish being varied and created with great care. The food is cooked on a hot plate on your table so it is a great experience just being part of the cooking of the food.
The Service - Polite, Dignified and Respectful. I have phoned with 15 hours notice and the response has been "fully booked" but with some encouragment they have always fitted me in with my guests. The restaurant is small, but it does create a wonderful atmosphere, it would be lovely if they could buy out one of the plots beside them and expand. Typically the restaurant is booked 2-3 days in advance on weekdays with 1 week in advance for weekend and Friday evening. So get in early.
Wine - Strangely I do not miss the ommision of a Wine waiter at my table:-) Their selection are varied and as long as you go for a mid priced bottle you will have a wonderful accompliament to your meal.
Price - One of the best value restaurants I have ever discovered. I would place it as mid priced. I expect to pay 25-40 per head depending on who the guest is!
BUT seriously! it is so worth it.

I've been to quite a few Korean restaurants in my time, and this would have to be up there with the best. You could tell from the first bite, that the food was fresh, well prepared and genuienly good quality. As for the taste; it was superb.
I went to the restaurant not knowing what to expect and what to choose from. The staff where very helpful and friendly. They suggested a soft tofu and cod spicy soup, which I had never tried before. It turned out to be delicious and just what I was looking for. (It will be hard not to order the same thing the next time I visit!)
I would definitely recommend this to Korean food lovers and newbes alike. This is a great place for quality, service, value and taste.
Enjoy

I ate in this restaurant with colleagues a couple of weeks ago on a visit to Staines and we were all absolutely delighted with the service and the food. The proprietor was extremely helpful and friendly and the staff very pleasant. The food was very well presented and absolutely delicious. We were so impressed we have decided to all travel back for an overnight stay in Staines taking our partners with us so that they can also experience this gem of a restaurant. The bill at the end of the meal was also a very pleasant surprise, giving excellent value for excellent food and service.

We've been to Ko Gu Ryo for the third time now in just a few months. This place is superb!! Most of the customers are Korean, which says something about its authenticity. The food is typically light, fresh, different, and extremely tasty. We've got into the habit of simply eating a range of starters as they are so nice - which I would recommend. The proprietor is an exceptionally friendly individual, very welcoming, and judging by the food, an excellent restaurateur.

I've been frequenting Ko gu ryo for over a year now, and can honestly say that it is a consistently fantastic restaurant. And this is compared to a lot of Korean restaurants that I've been to in the UK and Korea. The food is very, very fresh, the side dishes (kimchi, etc) are first class, and the staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. A wonderful find in Staines, it comes heartily recommended!

It has become our favourite restaurant and go every couple of months - sometimes more often.... The Kimchi is a very strong tasting pickle/spicy cabbage and is fantastic... The BBQ in front of you is brilliant and the staff really treat us great, making us feel very welcome. They make a thing of remembering us and have made us want to go back and show our friends - which we have done and will do again... To top the meal they give you a slice of orange at the end (so much better than a mint chocolate) and it's the best, sweetest, juiciest orange I've ever had... No idea where they get it from (though I did ask- and they told me a special Korean supplier). Though the orange is not the thing to go for - it's the fantastic Korean food - doesn't matter what you order - it's all great!!

We ate here on Saturday night as our family pre-xmas meal and were not disapointed! Staff were very friendly, food was delicious. Was good to feel challenged by the menu! The bbq meats were lovely and the king prawn starter to die for! Huge king prawns in a amazingly light batter. Came to £120 for 4 of us which thought was very reasonable for 3 courses with drinks and the fact we were in there for nearly 3 hours!! Well recomended!

Ko Gu Ryo is one of those restaurants which you never want to tell any one about, fearing that the place will get too crowded and you will have to book well in advance as a result! I have just moved to Staines recently. Being an avid fan of Korean foods, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a small but stylish Korean restaurant on the high street. I went in for a meal and it was one of the best dining experience...ever! The food was truly amazing. Every thing was cooked to perfection. The fish was fresh and not overcooked. The kimchi was crisp and delicious. Soup was packed with flavour. Even their boiled rice (bab) was so lovely that I could have had it plain with soy sauce. I ended the perfect meal with the perfect drink/dessert -- cinnamon tea. And did I mention the service? The staff were friendly and efficient. They were very attentive but not obtrusive. If you happen to read this message, please stay away from this restaurant. I want it all to myself!
