The worst restaurant i have been to in Chinatown, it was busy, so told to eat across the road at a shop counter, other wise i had to wait longer to eat in the restaurant.

We got a seat in the restaurant, for the four of us, it took a long time to take our order, we told the waitress we waited a long time for our table and then to get some service, she did not like this & spoke to a lady behine the till, (i think we should hav left at this point!!)

When we got our beer, it was too warm, ask them to change it , the said they would not, but gave us a glass of ice each, and said this is how they drink beer in malaysia (i think i have been scammed).

Food took over 45 minute (now you know why there is a queue), and was only warm and well below avarage for look or taste. we only pick at the food, it was that bad!! (should have left). we quickly paid our bill and left,

it came to a total of £55.00 for 4 warm beer , 2 warm noodle dishes, 1 warm soup noodle, 1 curry with rice & 1 greasy satay prawn (we decided not to say anything, it not worth the bother to upset our night out) we went for a beer & pick another restaurant, the night was saved

The food here is average. This is a lazy chefs take on malay cuisine. The C&R located in chinatown is staffed by rude people, and the basement seating area smells like a public toilet. The restaurent near Bayswater is far cleaner and staffed by attentive and polite people. The food is better also.

Desserts here are very nice, its not often you can find chendol and ice kachan in london. Its pretty good value for money, and some main dishes are pretty tasty, you could do worse if you feel like some comfort food that doesn't stretch the wallet.

OK, For a bite to eat before moving on elsewhere for the evening, you could do a lot worse. Food was good, hot, reasonably priced, and came quickly.

Biggest dissapointment (and reason for writing this review) was the service, (or lack of it).

Waitress was surly to say the least, no please or thank you, at any time during the meal, pointed to the table when we asked for a table for two and threw the menus down. It felt like they were doing us a favour by letting us be in there.

No smiles, No thank you's, No service, and I supposed you've guessed it.......

No tip.

Based on reviews here, we went on Saturday and I ordered the char kuay teow. What a disappointment! The dish was plentiful and reasonably tasty but so greasy I couldn't finish it and felt sick afterwards as it sat on my stomach. We also had the roti canai (not great), lamb satay (very nice), beef redang (tender) and chicken curry (poor). Overall, I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. We have been to Malaysia before and there was really no comparison. Service was actually very good and they do accept cards over a certain amount. We won't be going back.

I often hanker for the delights of Penang food and when I'm feeling particularly in need of some Malaysia grub, this is where I head. It's not so good that you eat the food, shut your eyes and you could be in Malaysia kind of good... but it's not too far off the mark in its authenticity. There is a great range on the menu though and is definitely worth a visit. I think it's great value for money as well - it's definitely cheaper than flying all the way to Penang everytime I need a food fix! (Except they don't take payment by card, so remember to take your cash with you before you go!)

In terms of authenticity, this is probably one of the best tasting Malaysian food in London. I often order the nasi goreng, char kuay teow and assam laksa. The prices are reasonable, waiters are friendly and service is good. Well worth your money and it's a place where you can go to again and again.

As this restaurant has expanded, service has suffered tremendously. When things gone wrong, as they seem regularly now at peak times, staff do not seem to take responsibility to sort things out! It's a real shame as this used to be a pleasant experience. It's certainly grown from a 5 table cafe back in the late 1990s to a bustling restaurant but at what cost to customer service?

This is truly an amazing and humble little cafe hidden in an alley called Rupert Court, right in the heart of Chinatown in London. Every meal at C&R brings back fond memories of when I'm back in Malaysia, from the setting of the cafe, waiters & waitresses who "don't seem to care but they actually do" kind-of attitude, loud clinkering of utensils, and customers talking loud in the background - all typical of a cafe in Malaysia. The food so far, is fantastic and as a born and bred Malaysian, I vouch by the authenticity of the taste. I love the Kampung Style Nasi Goreng (spicy fried rice) - it even comes with a fried egg and crispy anchovies, simply amazing! Wat Tan Ho (slightly fried ho-fun covered in tasty egg sauce and seafood)and C&R Rice Cake are also worth trying. What can I say - the price? Very reasonable for the generous portion that you get. Drinks, try teh-tarik (Malaysian style milk-shake tea) or kopi-tarik (Malaysian style milk-shake coffee), you won't go wrong. I would suggest sharing a dish with a friend, otherwise you might end up with a doggie bag or as how Malaysians would put it, 'Tapau' please!

Kangkong is very nice as you can taste the heat of a very hot Kuali (Wok) which brings out the aroma of the belachan sambal (Chilli prawn paste); probably the best in London. Sambal Okra (Ladies Fingers) is nice. Char Koay Teow (fried rice noodles with chillies ) is nice but there are other Malaysian Restaurants which are better in London. Service is about the best for these restaurants and the Westbourne Grove premises are spacious compared to the Soho branch.
