I have to say even after all these years, that Mangal is still the best place to eat in Dalston.

The meats are just amazingly tasty - The chops are a must and they serve chicken shish that isn't dry and flavourless but moist and smoked to perfection.

Obviously the decor and service are not why people come to Mangal - It is very functional. The portions are sometimes very random - Sometimes you get a massive platter to share or other times the portions come individually.

However, no higher praise can be found when my father drives all the way from Brighton to come eat here now I've introduced him to the wonders of Mangal.

Went here last night after seeing a play at the Arcola Theatre. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with the smell of barbeque and a buzz in the air. The staff are polite and professional. The quality of meat was absolutely top notch.

Had a table for 4 in the back, BYO 2 bottles of Turkish wine and settled in for what was one of the most delicious meals I've ever had in London. Mixed starter and fresh salad. Mixed grill, lamb, shish, one of the yoghurt sauce dishes, sides of houmous, aubergine, were served one after the other. £50 for all 4 people but to be fair we ordered too much (!) Superb value.

Definite experience to be had and definitely going back often.

Just moved into an office around the corner from this restaurant and cannot believe my pure luck. IT"S SO CHEAP BUT THE FOOD IS SO GOOD! Great atmosphere, everyone who goes there seems to be very friendly. The open coal fire really sends flavour to the meat. I feel very lucky to have found this fantastic restaurant with such low prices.

Beer for four and 3 full meals plus side of really good hummous only cost 35.50!

A bargain considering the standard of the food.

Service was fine and friendly.

That's it, slum it, eat a staved quayle and an aubergine sald for under a tenner! BYO and bask in the warmth of the remarkbly hazardous bath of charcoal. Though small, this establishment is a brilliant landmark. Why go to Nandos when this is just moments away?

Mangal is one of the true gem's of london eating. It's a small, no-frills affair in an unlikely side street location.

The first thing you'll notice about this place is the ever present queue for a table, something only the best places ever achieve.

The food is centred around the exquisite, bursting-with-flavour kebabs which are charcoal bbq'd in the open kitchen. Chicken, Lamb, chops, and are the mainstay. Also look out for the quails and patlican (augergines slices and minced lamb).

The bbq meats are served with fresh breads and hearty salads.

And best of all, the prices are outstandingly reasonable.

Thumbs up from Fatty Lo's Disciple.
