Vivat Bacchus Wine Bar
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
Every time I have been into this bar, I have been treated like a long lost friend. Nothing is too much trouble, even if it means bringing out new tables and chairs when the bar is packed (which it often is). Wine list is excellent, and there's advice on hand if you can't decide - if you want something a bit special, there is always the restaurant cellar downstairs, and there are some real treats in there.
Oh, and don't forget a visit to the cheese room where the staff will talk you through the many available options, depending on your taste.
Definitely worth a visit!

Very surprised by the previous review, in our experience the service is always friendly and helpful. All seats were taken when I went into the bar with a friend on Friday evening. We'd been standing there for all of thirty seconds when the manager came over, asked if we needed somewhere to sit, left the bar and came back in carrying a table for us. Fantastic. It's not the cheapest place to drink, but in my experience the service justifies the prices. Can't comment on the food generally, but the cheeseboards are good.

I was apalled by the service. On my way out, the waitress mistook me for somebody who left without paying and when it turned out to be someone else, she didn't even apologise.

One to avoid! This basement restaurant complete with 80’s filing room ceiling, terracotta floors and black painted metal chairs, leaves much to be desired. My friend had the crocodile tail, which tasted like unseasoned poached chicken. I had cauliflower soup with Roquefort oil, which repeated on me all evening. Following that I had the Springbok, which was covered in spices but, to me tasted like they had taken a hand full of dirt and rubbed it on. The red cabbage seemed to have been shredded by hand and was full of awkward pieces. The potato was…raw in the middle. We chose a South African wine called Jordan which we all found salty, when we told the Sommelier he smirked. Basically this restaurant suffers from split personality disorder. It just doesn’t know what it is? With its visible glass wine cellar, cheese room, cheap furniture, bad food and pretentious name, wants to be posh but is definitely just bad nosh.

very good food for a £9.50 two course menu- Due to having a good wine cellar for the "posher" restaurant downstairs the house red is very good too.
Was very impressed that the owner came to check on us twice and overall a v good experience for £15 for two course, a glass of wine, bread and service included.
