Food is overpriced and stroppy service. The pasta I had cost £9. It tasted like the sauce was from a jar. They never offered parmesan cheese, and when I asked for some, it was like I'd asked the waitress to peel me a grape. Then she never brought any. The burger my wife had was tasty but small for £10. Service at the bar was slow for what is, after all, a pub. If I was you, I'd drive straight past (the car park's a nightmare anyway).

Sunday lunch in a lovely pub, what could be nicer? Anything really! The service was terrible, food was poor to average, and the overall experience was not great. The salad with salmon had more dressing on the leaves than ever seen before, drowned into limpness. The other food was average, but took an hour to arrive, and with a toddler in tow, not the greatest service you would expect from a family pub on a Sunday.

Very disappointing, has the potential to be a lovely day out, good location, modern decor and a lovely roaring log fire.

II went with my wife for dinner a fewq weeks ago. Lovely decor, alwayse been a great location for locals. The menu was a good standard choice, and the service was freindly and antiodean. Best part was that you can get a quality white Rioja for a fair price. At last a restaurant that does not mark up the wine like there is no tomorrow. Pud was excellent and over all i felt a top spot.

Went to the Orange Tree for Sunday lunch and can only describe the event as awful. Service was appalling (waited nearly one hour between courses), had to remind staff that we were still waiting for our food on at least three occasions. Staff were generally brusque when approached and incredibly defensive when we pointed out how disappointed we were with the wait. Instead of getting our meal - they spent time looking up how long we had been waiting and pointing out we had only been waiting 50 minutes and not an hour!! The food when it arrived was disappointing and items were forgotten, which meant the embarassment of having to complain again. In the end even the staff agreed that we were right to be unhappy and gave us a considerable discount - though it doesn't make up for the stress of complaining, the poor service and the poor quality of the food. Don't waste your time or money - we wont be making that mistake again.

I have been to this pub numerous times as I live nearby. However, after many encounters with the rude and arrogant staff I will not be going back. It's a shame because it really is a very nice pub and good food - the major downside is the staff and service are atrocious!!!! Every time I have been, we have waited ages in the foyer like lemons whilst countless staff members walk past us without the slightest acknowlegement. We have even been brought the wrong drinks without an apology from the staff - they got in a huff and reluctantly went to change the drink to the correct order. I would not recommend this place due to the horrible staff.

In terms of decor the Orange Tree certainly looks the part of a glamorous gourmet pub, so too does the menu. The food is good, the ambience vibrant and young. Unfortunately what lets the place in time and time again is the service. I have been to here to dinner on several occasions and each time I have been left at the mercy of terrible waiting staff. Shame really because the place has a lot going for it.

This is not a child-friendly place in any respect. I visited on a quiet January lunchtime with a friend and my daughter. When a member of staff asked a senior member where to seat two adults and a buggy, he replied "McDonalds on the High Street".

What a shame as we have enjoyed this restaurant so often in the past with our (always sleeping) baby.

I have scored the food highly and service as appalling as comments like this are unnecessary.

I live near to the Orange Tree and visit quite frequently, I have today walked out for the third time. Having been seated after 30 minutes no-one had bothered to take a drinks order, or offer the specials menu, so we went elsewhere.

It is a great pity that the management cannot get the service right, the new decor is great and the food is usually good, the service is also very pleasant when and if it arrives.

Visited for my husband's birthday dinner having seen it included in a 50 best pubs supplement in The Observer recently. Lovely situation and very classy decor, although it looks like a classic English pub from outside it is really a restaurant. The menu sounds great but in our opinion didn't really live up to its promise, our Italian platter to share was a boring selection of mostly non Italian stuff, including a large heap of (very nice) flatbread with nothing to dip it in and masses of very salty black Greek olives ! My seabass, a special, was lovely itself, but with a bizarre accompaniment of out of season leeks, the tough green outer bits included, and barely cooked at that. My husband's risotto was perfectly OK but nothing more. Service rather confused and amateurish, though nice people. If you want somewhere to dress up for and go to be seen/peoplewatch, this place is perfect for drinks, but at these prices I wouldn't go back there to eat.
