Took two food writers for lunch here and all of us were impressed by the relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and good value tapas. Baby squid with ginger and chile were a big hit, and grilled scallops with vanilla showed an ambitious and talented hand at work in the kitchen.

Bill would have been c.£35 per head for more than enough food and a couple of glasses of wine each, but after 50% discount, was surely a steal.

Everything one could wish for from a neighbourhood restaurant, but which still seems too hard to find in a metropolitan city like London.

Based on the positive comments from the reviews, my husband and I have decided to pay L restaurant a visit. Indeed, it didn't let us down. The interior was modern and nicely decorated. I love the glass panel rooftop where you can have a soothing view. The waiters were polite and pleasant and the service was superb. We had seared king scallop and jamon as starters. Grilled rib eye steak and monkfish & shellfish catalonian stew for main course and pancake icecream as dessert. All of them were stunningly delicious and I just couldn't ask for more. We've tried other restaurants but found that L restaurant has stolen our heart.....

I took a family of three visiting London on business from India to the L along with my wife and our two teenage boys. This was before the 50% offer had begun. We all found this place to be pleasing in every way from the food to the service to the ambience. My boys still rave about the desserts which they found to be the "best ever". We will go again and will hopefully take advantage of the offer. On the last point of value for money, this place is not cheap. My tip was more than I pay for a full meal at some restaurants but was worth EVERY penny. I look forward to our next meal at the L.

I would definitely reccomend the L restaurant and bar to others. For the first time, I was completely satisfied with both the standard of food and the service from the staff was fantastic. It's not often that I leave a restaurant feeling totally satisfied overall so I was very pleased with this one.

I went for the 50% of the ala carte menu offer. Had a good range of foods to choose from and portions were just right. The monkfish soup was especially worth trying. Dishes were brought out at a fast pace, could not fault the service one bit. Staff were very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere of the place was perfect.

All in all, I was very pleased I came and glad the positive reviews on this restaurant did it justice.

We went here last Saturday night after having "discovered" it on London Eating with the 50% off food offer.

The service was pleasant from beginning to end and the atmosphere was mellow and wam all evening. We had tapas to begin with, baby squid with chilli and ginger sauce, this tasted brilliant but they were all clumped together and we did have to pick the battered pieces apart somewhat.

This was followed by the veal with mint truffle sauce and the seared foie gras with mango and ginger. These were utterly sublime, with exotic flavours layered together... for the main courses we had monkfish and shellfish Catalonian stew and seabass baked in parchment paper. The stew got good reports opposite me and the seabass was big and hearty and very tasty, despite being a little buttery for my liking and lacking a little in accompanying greens... there were greens available as sides but I didn't order them as there would simply be too much to eat.

For dessert we ordered the dessert platter for two which in reality is far too much for two people. It is better suited to three or even four as a tiny taster platter. There was creme brulee, cheesecake, strawberry sorbet, chocolate fondant with vanilla icecream, and lemon tart. The vanilla icecream and cheesecake were too rich and sweet for my liking, and the lemon tart was so sour I winced. The creme brulee, however, was made to light perfection and the strawberry sorbet was divine. The chocolate fondant was delicious but as we were trying everything a couple of teaspoonfuls for both of us sufficed, rather than the brownie-sized puck on the platter. Most customers wouldn't complain about large portions so I guess for some it is no bad thing...

All in all, a great experience and we'll definitely go again. Recommended to all.

A friend and I booked a table here on the recommendation of other readers here, so thought we'd add our kudos. This was a most enjoyable dining experience. The food and service was wonderful. As an example, when I couldn't decided which glass of red wine to order, the waiter brought me tastes of three. I found this delightfully surprising, especially since I wasn't ordering a bottle. My steak was tender and full of flavor, and all three wines I tried were lovely. Staff were friendly but not overbearing. Great place for a quiet meal with a friend or date.

Four of us went to L last night, taking advantage of 50% off food offer. I cannot think of one single negative aspect. Staff were courteous, waiter attentive and very polite. Did not have to wait too long for the gorgeous food to come along. Started off with a few tapas (e.g. squid with ginger and chilli dip) then went on to starters (e.g. hand-carved ham, duck with pomegranate); choice of mains was excellent (monkfish, steak, chicken, roast belly of pork etc.) all of which were delicious. Finally, puddings were small but perfectly formed. I hope this place goes far; even if you pay top price, the fact that there are many wines by the glass (and also that the wines start at £13 per bottle) should mean it's quite good value even then.

Having read all of the reviews for L, I am absolutely convinced that diners have been eating at another establishment! My friend and I dined at L on Wednesday 29th March 2007. Having ordered drinks in the front bar first, I waited an inordinately long time to be served with a simple Bloody Mary - which I must admit was delicious, albeit rather late.

We were shown to our table at 8pm; we ordered a bottle of sparkling water and a bottle of wine; we too ordered our food. A bottle of still water was delivered to the table......at 9.30pm after I enquired when our food would be served we were told that the order was lost and that they were "very sorry".

The restaurant had 6 tables covered that evening....the waitress did not speak very much English....it was freezing cold. If you really like your fellow diner, please don't take them here; it was cold, inefficient, over priced and absolutely NOTHING special. Instead, take yourself over the road to Whits, where the food is sublime along with the impeccible service with a smile by English speakers who know what they are doing.

We ate there using a 50% off deal from London eating. It was a wonderful meal - not over-the-top haute cuisine, but beautifully presented food with delicious flavours. The atmostphere is intimate, and I would imagine that it would be lovely in the summer with the glass roof. If you want to have a little privacy, they have a mezzanine floor which is mainly tables for two, and overlooks the main restaurant. I would definitely recommend a visit.
