Halli

Halli in Leicester is one of my all time favourite restaurants and the place we always seem to end up in when we go out from work. I also go there on my own and am made to feel very welcome. the staff are courteous and warm. The food is exquisite, I just don't know how else to describe it. the flavours are distinct and refreshing, its the kind of food that you just don't want to finish eating! I have been there so many times that I have sampled pretty much the whole menu and I have yet to find anything I wouldn't eat again. I have taken committed meat eaters to Halli who have been very surprised, my boss was shocked to enjoy a meal so much without meat!!! I can't recommend Halli highly enough and I just don't recognise the comments written below about the food being oily and the prices high, simply not true in my extensive experience of the place.

We 5 students from Leicester University go to Halli restaurant at lest twice in a month. After Halli opened since almost 18 months, its our favourite Restaurant in Midlands. Some of our friends are from South India and they felt many times that the 'MUM' was cooking at the restaurant. I was new to this cuisine and I love it. I think it is a healthy concept together with its quality in service, value and atmosphere. I could not find Beetroot Sesami, Dosas and Bendi Kodakanas in any other Curry houses. Its great.

I am sure Mr. Ram is the man of Halli's competetor- though no other south Indian restaurant can even compete with Halli. Its an Ideal restaurant and the prices are very reasonable. Anyone can check their prices on the website. My suggestion is, Mr. Ram should eat only at home.

halli is a very expensive restaurant. though the food available is fairly authentic the prices dont justify either the quality or the quantity of the dishes. In short, you can end up spending more money for a satisfying meal. The dosas are at times soggy and chutneys are fiery. Oil seems to be free flowing. More money for little satisfaction!!!

Myself and my husband were really disappointed when we ate at Halli. The rice had large slices of chilli in and the mutter paneer had far too much oil and too little paneer. We also found the sauces/chutney which accompanied the starters to be very hot.

This South Indian vegetarian restaurant offers cuisine which is refreshing and different to the usual ‘Curry House’ fair. I think that this counts as one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Good service, good food, excellent side dishes and particularly good choice of vegan meals. A very unique selection of curries very different from the type you will find on most high streets. The flavoring is delicate and NOT overloaded with chilly, oil, turmeric or red food colouring!!
