I must add to the review below. My husband and I visited the restaurant last Sunday and it was great. With gorgeous breads, smoked cheeses and a menu that offered so many wonderful dishes we were spoilt for choice. I couldn't fault the atmosphere or service and would defintiely recommend a visit.

I live locally and have been three or four times. I have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere but the service is woeful! It's such a shame as that's what you remember. It takes an age to get noticed, food is low and doesn't come at the same time which means you can be eating your main whilst your partner is still waiting. Some of the staff seem to hold the customer with contempt. Try Bucchi in Balham which doesnt have the same ambiance, but has attentive service and good food.

This restaurant is a fantastic place to eat. It is cosy, warm, friendly and authentic, and the service is fantastic. It feels just like a traditional Italian restaurant. I would definitely recomend it!!!

As lcoal Tooting Bec residents, we have been eating at Teatro for many years (ever since it opened) and always look forward to it. Their friendly management and staff remember their customers and greet them like old friends. With a warm, cosy atmosphere and great unpretentious Italian cuisine, Teatro is one of the real assets of Tooting Bec - so much so that people even come from restaurant-rich Balham to taste its delicious starters, its varied and interesting main courses and the best pizzas for miles around. Their house wine is well selected and reasonably priced. It's a fun place for a large part of friends - ask for the long table by the window. If Teatro ever closes (heaven forbid!), we move from Tooting Bec.

Went for dinner with friends last night, firstly they didn't have a note of the booking I had made 4 days previously. 30 minute wait for drinks and bread, main courses came out at the same time as starters, so we had to send them back, then when we had finished the starters we were given dessert menu's. Come on guys, inattentive, and rude staff are letting you down!

Fantastic place!!! Me, being half italian myself can spot a "mock-italian" from a mile without even eating their poor offerings. Il Teatro is the real deal, fresh ingredients prepared simply, I thoroughly recommend their spaghetti a le vongole and the insalata di mare..yum!! . Great wine list, nice atmosphere and the sweetest waitresses ever!! Went there on a date without reservation on a saturday night and they treated us like regulars..Can't wait to go back.

Oh, we definitely disagree with the bad service comments, we have been eating at II Teatro, our favourite local restaurant for a couple of years now, quite frequently, good food, friendly staff, great service. Highly recommend!

I really disagree with the two previous reviews. I go to il teatro with my boyfriend on a weekly basis and we've always found the food fresh and delicious, service fantastic and the staff very friendly and accomodating. Since I moved into the area a year ago the place has become increasingly popular - which is sign that it attracts repeat business!

I agree with the last reviewer about the service. We stopped going to this place a while back as it was so unfriendly. Then we gave it another go recently and found the service was even poorer than before.

A great local place to eat - good food, nice atmosphere but the service is appaling and seems to have become worse.

Guys sort this out - 45mins to get drinks and bread!!!
