The Bountiful Cow

Went here on a Thursday night with a friend. We both had the £19.50 Rib-eye which was big, very tender, very juicy and full of flavour - which is pretty much all I want from a steak. Couldn't really tell if it had been cooked over charcoal or not - but it was very well cooked to medium-rare with the cross-hatched sear giving extra beef unctiousness. The chimichurri was punchy, and the malbec was delicious.

Good service, staff all very friendly.

All in all - very good! I can't fault it and will definitely go back.

I came with a small group after work one Friday. It was quiet at first downstairs but then a large and very noisy group arrived which was a little offputting. We dined from the festival menu, which I thought was very good value. I had the sirloin steak and chips. The steak was cooked as I asked although I felt the quality wasn't the best. The chips seemed to be frozen ones. The salted caramel ice cream was extremely nice but just came in a frozen glass with no other texture like a biscuit or something. The wine I had by the glass wasn't up to much for the price. Service was accomodating but the girl seemed a little rushed after the large group had arrived. I probably wouldn't come back.

A firend and I ate there last night (10/09/11) and had their 'early dinner' special - whch is 2 courses for £12.50 per person.

The rocket salad was fresh & tasty, and had a very nice dressing. The burgers were huge, and great value for money - the chips were also nice & crispy. We ordered the burgers medium and they were a little under-done, but the quality of the beef made up for it.

The downside was the 12.5% service charge, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. As the venue sells itself as a pub that does food, and not a restaurant that sells drinks this is utterly wrong.

My second complaint is the astronomical drink prices - A back-street pub that charges £9.25 for a pint of Fosters and a glass of (very ordinary) house wine is just absurd.

I went to the BC for a small works Christmas lunch. All my colleagues went for the steak option and were satisfied. Food and presentation was good. I however made the choice of roast beef. Mistake. Beneath one piece of decent roast beef lay some stringy, fatty rare pieces of beef; veg was from a catering pack; the portion of roasties was frugal; and the plate was decorated with one token Yorkshire pudding. Comparatively, I have had better roast beef dinners served to me in "greasy spoons" around London, and I know I could have made better at home. Not recommended, and risible value for money.

as with the other reviews, 3 people from a table of 6 send their steaks back because they were too rare - however the steaks were rare in the middle and over cooked on the outside. The only time I have ever had an experience like this was when I had defrosted a frozen piece of meat...cooked on the outside and bloody in the middle. I would avoid eatting here at all costs...over priced and poor quality - you would be better off going to a wetherspoons for a £10 rib eye.

I was here with two friends a month ago. The place was crowded but nevertheless service was good. The food was clearly above average pub food but one of us had to send the beef back because it was too rare. My best memory is the selection of very good ales. I would recommend it for the ales.
