I went to this place with friends. The atmosphere and service was okay, but the food was very poor - I could make better fajitas myselff! I definitely wouldn't go there for a meal again.

With so much competition on Charlotte Street, it is a wonder that this restaurant is still open.

Although my partner and I had not booked, on arrival we were shown to a table almost under the bar top at the back of the room. A bar stool right next to the table was occupied by someone smoking and we did not want to eat in a cloud of smoke fumes. All other tables had 'reserved' signs but having asked to be moved to another table, one sign was removed and we were placed more centrally. Were they simply trying to look popular? Having sat down, we were immediately given some rather inspid looking nachos and a bowl of salsa. A quick skim of the menu showed that these were certainly not complementary. We ordered our food and though the starter of nachos, cheese, chillis and chorizo was edible, the mains certainly were not. We both went for enchiladas with different fillings and were very disappointed when they arrived. Aside from being some of the smallest tortillas we had ever seen, the whole plate (including refried beans and rice) had obvioulsy just come out of the microwave. The tortillas were tough, the refried beans were grey with a skin on them and the rice was brittle. At nearly £10 a portion, this was certainly not value for money. We couldn't finish the food and left shortly afterwards. We won't be coming back.

This is one of the worst places I've EVER been to. A sober party of 8, within minutes of arriving we were more or less screamed at (at lenght) by the waitress for having moved a small table out of our way 'What I don't understand is why you could not have told me when you booked the table that you were 8 and not 10 people' followed by an over dramatic removal of the table (though it was in nobody's way). Basically we were there to celebrate a birthday party and were it not for that we would have walked out immediately. But no, we decided to overlook this incredibly rude girl and try to have a good time for our friend. Then came the food... my enchillada was obviously micro waved (but only for 30sec)and had 'souce' with a crysty surface, clearly old. It looked revolting and it was. The same went for the rest of the dinners we had ordered, plus it was expensive for what it was. Well, I wouldn't have even considered eating it, never mind paying for it, was it not for trying to make it a nice evening for my friend, who by then was already embarrassed enough at her choice of venue. I actually felt sick for hours afterwards. The only thing going for the place was our lovely waiter. He was really nice and I hope he'll find a new job in a decent place soon, he was well out of place there.

I strongly disagree with the ratings!! This restaurant is better then average! I went there last night for my mum's birthday and it was great. We had quick service and the food was excellent. The staff was very pleasant and the atmosphere was calm and friendly. To top the whole night it was reasonably priced at about £20 for starters and main course. Definitely making this restaurant a regular.

Good burritos, average fajitas but a lively place with reasonable prices and a good bar downstairs.

I went to La Perla last night (6/4/06) for a work leaving do. This is an excellent retaurant for groups - the vibe is fun and unpretentious - a good pre-club choice. 8 of us drank plenty of sol and tequila and stodged up with all manner of Mexican munchies - the usual burritos, enchiladas and fajitas: all yummy. The bill came to £20 ph including tip: very reasonable for this part of town. Basically it is what it is - cheap and cheerful Mexican food served with a smile.
