My previous experience of The Rivington had been very good, so when asked where I would like to celebrate an anniversary I asked for The Rivington.
Oh how sadly mistaken I was, shoddy service, so overheated I was uncomfortable - UNTIL the AC came on - the icy blast came straight at me and I reached for my wrap, then back to overheating until another blast of air-con. Items not available, surly unpleasant service. NEVER AGAIN

I am not a fan of British food to say the least but here the food is just great! The service is a hit and miss exercise depending on whom you get but it is generally OK. I would go back for the food again and again....It is simply divine!

Having had a pleasant experience of dinner at the Rivington in Greenwich and heard raving reviews of breakfast at the Rivington in Shorditch, I suggested brunch there...It turned out not to be such a great idea.
To start with, the table at which we were sat was so close to the wall behind me I couldn't move once I was sat. Looking forward to a delicious breakfast, I tried not to let my bad morning mood take over for no reason. A lovely waitress came to take our order, which was a fairly long process, complicated by the fact that she did not speak English very well. Although she repeated our order, we called her back to double check she hadn't forgotten my boyfriend's eggs and black pudding. She assured us she hadn't and informed me I had to change my drink order as they had ran out of pink grapefruit juice (my eavesdropping skills later allowed me to establish that they had ran out of pretty much everything if the conversation of the waitress and the table next to us was anything to go by). Oh, well, not a big deal.
Breakfast arrived - they had clearly forgotten the black pudding and we were about to point this out to the waitress when we located the smallest chunk of the stuff hidden in a corner of the plate. Quite cheap, but not a cheap as the one toast cut in half masquerading as "toast and preserves" and charged 2 pounds!! My eggs benedicts were pretty good, and they redeemed themselves - through their own stupidity - by forgetting to charge us for the eggs and anorexic piece of black pudding (yes, the one we asked for twice). Needless to say, we didn't insist on getting it added to the bill (which still came to over 20 pounds). And we won't be going back there for brunch.

I arrived at Rivington with a large group of friends for a birthday and the first impression I had was being made to feel like a common criminal by being told to keep the volume down. After this we ordered our meal which arrived promptly. I personally ordered the steak which was over cooked but I had gone for rare but went medium rare to be safe those who ventured for a medium had a level of cookedness not see since Hiroshima. My wife chose the chicken leek and mushroom pie which had the same consistency of rubber in the better bits of the meal and at worst resembelled a dfs leather sofa at the end of year sale and at nearly the same price. The most galling point of the dinner came at the end when after the most delightful experience described above the total bill came to £413.72 and after paying the £413 the waitress came back demanding the extra 72p. This is my first time reviewing a foodie type place and have tried to not get myself censored but would encourage people that there are better things in the world to spend you money on.

Having read a very favourable review of this restaurant by Jay Rayner I had been intending to try this place for quite some time, so when a friend said that he had booked a table here for his birthday, I was very much looking forward to it. Unfortunately i was a little disappointed to honest. First of all although the general decor of the place was very nice, our party of nine was put in some corner of the restaurant away from all the other diners. This caused two problems, firstly that we were away from any general atmosphere that the restaurant may have had and secondly that we were very cramped, particularly the unlucky person who ended up in corner! Moving onto the menu, I don't like fish or seafood at all so I found the starters menu to be particularly limited (most dishes fell into that category). That said I ordered Lamb sweetbreads and they were very tasty. For mains there was more choice, the food being a twist on "British classics". I ended up ordering Steak & Mushroom pie. I was rather annoyed to find that chips or veg were extra (although this now seems to be par for the course in many restaurants) and ordered chips to go with it. The pie was ok but the pastry was rather suet-y and the chips were ok. That said my local pub does a nicer pie (with chips and veg) for half the price. We didn't order dessert. The house white was pleasant and reasonably priced at around £15 a bottle, service was ok but no more than that. The bill ended up being around £40 per head including service, which I personally thought was a little on the pricey side for the food offered. Overall then it wasn't bad, and if it was local I might even give it another Try but as it's in Hoxton and I live in Ealing I won't be making a return visit.

I stopped by last night for a glass of wine and a snack with a good friend of mine. The atmosphere was cold to say the least and the service snooty.
The bar was empty and there was merely 2 people dining.
In these tough times, you would have thought the staff would have welcomed you with open arms.
Instead the head waiter was mincing around the room looking down his nose at us.
Shame, could be so nice, but the atmosphere so cold I did not even take my coat off.
Could do MUCH better!
