The Real Greek (Marylebone)

Nothing more than a pretentious kebab shop.
-Incredibly bland food with a serious emphasis on ripping you off.
-Can find better humous in a supermarket.
-Fair service.
Edible, but save your ££'s for a holiday to Greece.

Daylight robbery.
6 pounds for a small kebab? This is so ridiculous.
Left the place and we started looking for another restaurant .
Kebab for 4 costs 40 pounds and has 6 pitta (never knew that 6 was divided by 4!)

went for first time last night. The staff were friendly and helpful, they allowed me to change the main slightly with no fuss, and the mezze was really excellent with the exception of the cheese balls - seriously poor). The lamb slouvaki was excellent if not a little small - highly recommend this place.
PS - the desserts including the home-made pistachio ice cream was excellent!

I love this place, I found completely by accident when I got lost on my way to baker street. I live in Brighton so make a point of coming here every time I visit London. It never fails to deliver. The kebabs are just great and I wish you could but the bread they use. i asked but apparently its imported from Athens and you can't get it anywhere else. I was a pig last time I went and had the lamb cutlets as well as a kebab. The cutlets are incredible and really cheap too, you'd pay twelve quid in most other restaurants. Love the retsina... reminds me of a beach I once woke up in Santorini, but that's another story.

Try horta with beetroots! The rest of the dishes are ok but they're not in any case Real Greek. Most of the dishes have been compromised in authenticity and originality, as the new gastronomic conceptions of the head-chef cannot be met in any Greek souvlaki place. Needless to say that portions are 1/3 of the usual real Greek portions and of course the prices 3 to 4 times up. Most importantly, the unsigned "contract" between ALL souvlaki places in Greece and their customers, that their souvlaki can consist of whatever they feel they like in their pitta, is brutally broken by the management of the restaurant, which does not offer any other option than the fixed menu. No Greek at all!

Agree with other reviews: the food is not that special and the bill is kind of high.

Extremely disappointing meal, my Daughter and I really fancied a traditional Greek meal and tried the Souvlaki which bore nothing in relation to the Greek Street food as promised on their website. Furthermore I was appalled by the sneaky way they ask if you would like some olives (then charge you £3.60 for approx 6 olives) when other restaurants will give these as a complimentary starter.
Would not recommend this as overpriced and food is nothing special.

We went for dinner on Saturday since this is new and we fancied some good Greek cooking. The decor is interesting but the menus and table setting (cutlery and napkins in a box in the centre of the table) make it feel very "fast food". Very disappointing menu - presumably so that all the food can be cooked by anyone - no really Greek specialities, just a short list of meze and skewers with or without bread wrap. We ordered tzatziki, aubergine dip and tomato dip from the meze to start which were ok, bread was very good, fresh and hot. The souvlaki were tough and very poor value for money (£7 for four pieces of lamb on a skewer) as well as being tasteless. Lamb chops were better but expensive. The real shock though is the bill, which seems to be very steep for such a simple restaurant. One modest bottle of wine, water, three meze, three skewers of mixed meat and one lamb chops, plus some bread and salad, came to £70. Somehow it felt very pricey for a very ordinary place. Next time we shall be going to a real, Real Greek, rather than this chain that has reduced all the cooking to the lowest common denominator and lost what it really means to eat good Greek cooking.
