Elephant Royale (Gants Hill)

I've been to this restaurant about 5 times and they never disappoint. We went on a Thursday night which was quite busy. We all had seafood, I had the seabass which was fresh with nice delicate flavour with chillies to give it a little kick. I can say that we all went home fully satisfied. The service was a little slow we just put that down to it being busy. The staff were friendly, they even offered complimentary drinks as it was my husbands birthday.

Tired decor and tired food, same menu since it opened in the late 90's, lacked true flavour of Thai. Good service if not over the top. Manager walking up and down clicking his pen constantly got on my nerves a bit and a poor greeting when entering the establishment.. Live music was good but only a handful of people in the restaurant which should have been a sign of going elsewhere. Question is would i go there again? NO. Value for money? NO.

I went to this restaurant for a meal after work with a friend. I would definitely say the service is excellent although we did have to wait at the door for a bit whilst we pressed the bell on the table.

The layout and decor of the restaurant is very nice, almost like a jungle kind of feel.

The food is really well presented, although i would have to agree with the person who said the food was quiet greasy and the flavours wasn't as intense as i thought they would be. As i had pineapple rice and 'spicy' spare ribs which were not spicy one bit and quiet crispy (overcooked).

Apart from that i would say the service and atmosphere was lovely and the food was mediocre, almost similar to takeaway food.

But i would recommend here if you wanted to try something new.

Someone had recommended this restuarant to us for good thai food, but I would not be making the same recommendation. Our friends and us have had better thai food in quite frankly cheaper restuarants. Much of the food was overcooked , greasy and lacked flavour.

Went with some friends for dinner here on Saturday. Food distinctly average and service was not great. They seemed short staffed.

The manager of this restuarant could not manage a p**s up in a brewery. Ate here in a party of six last saturday. We had asked for a quiet table, and whilst you expect a restaurant to be busy on a saturday, they put a group of 20 teenagers next to us, who proceeded to throw things across the table, shouting at the tops of their voices and jumping up and down. A number of times we complained and the waiter asked them to at least sit down. But this continued for the whole meal. At the end, we were desparate to leave. We asked for a discount on the basis our meal was effectively ruined. The manager said he couldnt keep an eye both the kitchen and the restuarant at the same time, and when we pointed out it was not our fault he was short staffed, he said we had specifically asked for this table which was a complete lie ! After much complaining and arguing he brought the bill over and told us he'd given a £15 !!! discount . He told us effectively this meant our waiter would not get paid that night. Disgusting way for a manager to behave in our view. It was entirely his total lack of management that was to blame and not the waiter. Food, I have to say, was not that great either. I would not recommend.
