Elephant Royale (Gants Hill)

Eight of us ate here a couple of weeks ago and I can quite honestly say it was the worst meal I have had for years. Not sure what was happening in the kitchen that night but what came out was dreadful. Tough lamb to the point of being inedible, tasteless fish (something I never thought I would say about Thai cooking) and a dish that just smelt bad. We had all eaten here before which was why we returned but never will again. With the amount of food that was left I expected someone to ask if there was anything wrong but there was nothing.

i went there for the first time and it was lovley the amtmosphere was buzzing the staff were very friendy and the food was delicous.

i would reccomend going there, but i would also recommend you make a reservation as when i went ther it was very very busy.

I`ve eaten here a few times and it has always been excellent. With a soothing atmosphere and friendly staff wearing thai dress it has never failed to please. A very good choice of dishes, which, one can prepare for with one of the many and varied cocktails on offer. You could waste alot of time trying to find the fare on offer in this restaurant elsewhere, its Fantastic

Service like others have mentioned was a very disappointing, food wasn't very tasty and noodles were very salty, definitely not worth the money and I wouldn't return - the entertainment on the other hand was fantastic. I guess you can't win them all!

I have been eating here for the last 18 years. I travel a lot and agree that some of the food is not as spicy as you would get in Thailand, however the food is not Chinese. The Buffet on Sunday is lovely. The Thai salads are excellent, as good as in Bangkok, the Curries not as spicy as some of us would like, but if you ask the staff for chilli & garlic in fish sauce it will compensate. They also will make allowances if your vegitarian like my sister in law, and get her special dishes as she is disadvantaged by the lack of veg dishes. Both the Tom Yum Soups they serve are excellent. We love the food, the atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Maybe you need to treat them how you would like to be treated to get the best out of them. A good eating experience, a clean place, well decorated and good food.

Well, my friends and I have eaten there on two occasions. Actually we have just returned from there, and again, we found the staff RUDE and UNWELCOMING. Strangely, they appeared slightly warmer to other customers, and we suspect that it may be our ethnic origin. Service staff threw the dessert menus on our table, snatched up our dirty plates, and not once smiled, or gave any form of eye contact (we may as well have not even been sitting there). At no point during our meal did they come back to ask us if we were OK. The food was not bad, but with the disgusting service we received on two occasions we will definitely not return!!

I went to the restaurant many times about a year ago and I missed it so much that my friends and I decided to return for the food. I was really forward to the visit.

The buffet was well known for being excellent and tasty. When we got there the place still looked the same but I was rather upset at the choice of food. It was not even Thai- It was borderline chinese cheap style buffet. It felt cheap and even simple dishes tasted very BLAND! There was nothing Thai about the food more chinese. Even the service was bad nothing special. The only thing I like was the fruit salad but then again you can get that anywhere. I should have gone to a dim sum place...more expensive but at least I am getting quality food would hvae had a good day.

I wont be going again. They have changed management I think and you can tell by the changes in the food. nothing special and a major disappointment.

I ate here on Saturday evening. Service was variable with some staff verging on rude. The food was, at best, average with certain dishes being very bland despite being described as spicy. The best thing about the place was the trio singing. It was only the entertainment which stopped the evening being very disappointing. Far better thai food available in the area. Ulikely to return.

I live very close to this place and have eaten here many times, service is generally very good, a warm comfortable place which serves very good food. I would say the best place to eat Thai Food in the East of London. Lovely quite place unless like the Docklands venue the piano player is in the house.
