One word....Spectacular!

Let me write some more actually, because this place is definitely one of the best restaurant/bars I've been to! Fantastic atmosphere, lively and friendly! The food is undoubtedly fresh, packed full of flavour, and enough to make you wriggle in delight when you eat it!

Superb! I recommend this restaurant to anyone!!

I don't know what the reviewer who said the food was bland and customised to the western palate is talking about, or where they're from. But I'm Vietnamese and its the most authentic Vietnamese food I've had in London. I go back time and time again because I miss my mum's cooking and I can't cook myself!!!

So if you want authentic vietnamese food that isn't downgraded for the Western palate I'd definately recommend Buddah Jazz.

I've lived in Camberwell for a while, but it wasn't until I moved to the top of the hill that I got round to going for a meal at Buddha Jazz. I had always been put off by the name, but was soon to find that behind it lies a superb local restaurant! Since the first visit I've been back 3 times and I have little but praise for it.

Firstly, the decor and ambiance is excellent. You know that uninviting blond wood modern noodle bar feel? None of that here. Buddha Jazz is warm and inviting from start to finish. Even the loos are pleasant :)

Secondly, the staff and management are very friendly and uniformly courteous and attentive. I love the service here.

Thirdly, the food is generally wonderful and well priced. The best things on the menu are the starters: the frogs legs are delicious and the goat and plantain is very tasty and generously proportioned. The main courses are more variable, but I can heartily recommend the beef and lemongrass noodles.

As a fourth and final item, as a fan of interesting and unusual beer, I love the range of imported beers at Buddha Jazz. They have Budvar Dark on tap and an incredible selection of oriental lagers in bottles.

One previous reviewer compared Buddha Jazz to Soho restaurants, and as someone who has worked and eaten in Soho for years, I have to disagree: the prices may be similar to those of, say, Soho Thai, but the intimacy of the surroundings and the attention to detail in the service and the cooking is that of a much better restaurant.

To sum up, this place is a local gem that deserves your custom.

Bland, over-priced food which is very unadventurous. I'd expect food like this in an old boozer but for half the price. The decor is nice enough though so it's a shame the chefs don't make more of an effort to really cook faithfully authentic dishes from Thailand, Malaysia or Vietnam. Instead what you get is a mish-mash of dishes tailor-made for the English palate. Staff are very nice though and it's in a good location.

This is a great little restaurant. Small menu but some really tasty dishes, well presented, starters are particularly good. Atmosphere very chilled and excellent, friendly service. There's also a good quality beer on draught which makes a change for somewhere this size. The prices are also very easy on the pocket. Go, eat, enjoy.

This is a great little restaurant. It does have a limited menu but there is a reasonable choice with a few decent vegetarian options. It has a warm atmosphere with excellent service. There's also good draught beer available which is unusual in a place this size. On top of this the pricing is gentle on the pocket.

I read plenty nice about this place and so wanted to try it. It was uniformly beneath mediocre. No Jazz was in evidence - try NuElevator Music Volume 4. We paid a Soho price for things mostly straight from the freezer or tins probably sourced near Hanger Lane from Wing Yip or one of those catering megamarts. The value was so bad the experience was approaching theft - 20p worth of noodles + a few overcooked prawns and a smattering of peanuts + loud babies is not worth the price of a steak. £50 better spent on Special Brew if you want a nice evening. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Never again. We offered some tactful feedback and the reaction was indifferent.
