Probably one of the best indian restaurants I have been to in London. We went on a special "pay what you think the food is worth" deal, and it honestly was worth the menu prices! Great veg and non-veg options with speciality dishes alongside some old favourites. Great service, fantastic wine list and awesome location at Chelsea Imperial by the river. Only downside is its not near a tube station but its worth the 5min walk from New Kings Rd. Highly recommend!

My girlfriend and I (both vegetarian)

chanced upon this restaurant by complete accident when we stayed at the nearby Jury's Inn last week. We had travelled up from Brighton and were looking for a quick meal prior to an engagement party in Chelsea. I have to say that this place is absolutely fantastic. I have eaten in most of the Indian restaurants in London and Brighton (and elsewhere in the UK) and can honestly say that this was in the top three Indian meals I have ever eaten. Service was supreme, food was out of this world. Plenty of interesting new choices for the vegetarian diner. If they did Paneer Shashlik I would probably move to Chelsea but sadly they don't. Apparently Robbie Williams gets his takeaways there! I would recommend this place 110% and suggest you try some of the vegetarian dishes if you are looking for something different. True you pay slightly more than you would elsewhere but then it's worth every penny.

Quite a different experience to other diners I'm afraid. Lovely decor and friendly staff (if a bit too attentive at times) but we had bad experiences with the meal. My boyfriend ordered a chicken and prawn starter for us to share - only to discover the chicken was pink in the middle. We left it pointedly on the plate, bloody side up, and to be fair, they gave us a different prawn dish for free to make up for this mishap. Only for the main course of chargrilled tandori chicken to be bloody in the middle as well. We sent this second bloody chicken back and ate our free prawns instead. A shame - we had looked forward to going here, and the staff were very apologetic and didn't charge us for the inedible dishes - but we wouldn't go again. Too much of a risk for what was to be a special night out.

Memsaab is one of the relatively new breed of Indian restaurants aiming for the highest end of the market. It has achieved this very well, providing excellent quality food in beautifully decorated surroundings. The restaurant is very stylish with brightly coloured pictures of ground spices on the walls and little painted pots dotted around. The staff are excellent. They are very polite and, on the whole, very efficient.

It is rare that one finds a restaurant menu which leaves you so completely spoilt for choice. Everything looks amazing from the squid and mango starter to the Syrian duck main course and the rice brulee dessert. I sat for ages deciding between four or five of each of the starter and main sections. In the end I chose scallops with chilli and coriander followed by a giant prawn curry.

I’m always pleasantly suprised when an amuse-bouche arrives. I don’t think I’ve ever had one in an Indian restaurant before. It was a very pleasant fruit lassi.

The starters come in very generous portions. I had five scallops, three of which were absolutely perfect. The other two were just a touch overcooked. I would never have thought of preparing scallops with such strong flavours but the result was very good. They came with a very pleasant salad of coriander and beetroot.

My main dish, a Bengali giant prawn curry with saffron rice, was also excellent. The dish was very mild and creamy and had four huge prawns. Even the naan bread was perfect. My food was accompanied by a French sauvingon-blanc. This was average but it was one of the cheaper wines on the list. The full wine menu was huge and ranged in price from £15 to £200.

Since we arrived so late there was no time for dessert but the selection looks great. Two starters and two main courses with rice and a shared naan bread costs around £50. Personally, I thought this was very good value for money.

Memsaab is open until 11:30pm and, sadly for my bank balance, does take-aways. Try out this little gem of a restaurant before everyone else finds it and you find yourself having to book weeks in advance!

The restaurant is a great place to chill out. The location is brilliant. Love the food, especially the fish preparation. The Chef was kind enough to spend time with us and explain how each dish at our table was prepared and what special ingredients were used. We were very pleased with the service and Memsaab is definitely on a return visit list.
