Marco Pierre White's Yew Tree Inn
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
We ate at the Yew Tree on Friday for my husbands birthday and we took a couple of friends with us. We had a fantastic meal and the service was second to none. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone, anyone who gives it a bad review must have been at a different Yew Tree! We also met the man in question who I have to say turned out to be extremely pleasent and charming.

As good as we expected. fabulous food although we were a but rushed but we enjoyed the ambience, friendly staff and top class food. One point that surprised us was the fact that dogs were allowed in the Bar. We found that difficult and thus spent less time over our champagne cocktails and pushed on to the restaurant. Anyhow a point to note!

We had a lovely time with a meal for 2 costing £45 each with no wine. Starters were Morecambe Bay shrimps - fantastic with mains of Fish Pie and Steak and Ale pie. The Fish Pie was packed full of cod, salmon, prawn and spring onion - excellent but too much for me to consume in one sitting. Cabbage was lovely and sweet and out of this world with the leek with cream excellent and Swede puree wonderful. The steak pie was lovely, tender and tasteful. Service by the head waiter was excellent who was friendly and very knowledgeable although some of the staff were new, they were efficient and polite. Puddings were creme brulee - again excellent. Would recommend to anyone for a lovely dinner.

We had lunch today at the Yew Tree Inn Nr Newsbury. If I never see the inside of one of Marco's resturants again I will not fret. Poor food, bad service and a carpet on the floor that can only be described as a death trap. Roasted potatoes at 50p a spud!!!! Where do you think you are London? It would not be so bad if the spuds tasted good. They don't. I think this place is A bit like the Emperor' s New Clothes. A desperate Lady comes around and ask you if it was nice. You are suppopsed to say Yes. They don't like it if you say No. The Gin and Tonic is about the best thing in the place. Don't waste your money go somewhere else. This place will not be there in 12 months. They seem to start wityh the presumption that Country Bumpkins don't know about food. However Country Bumkins know all about food this is where it comes from.
Eel tasted of nothing. potatoes, too hard. Bread too salty. Roast Lamb cold by the time the veg turned up. Carrots in parsley sauce tasted of nothing £2.50 extra. New roasted spuds (5) £2.50 This would have been a lot if they tasted good. They did not.
Summer Pudding with Chantilliy Cream you could have soled and healed your boots with it. It was just pouring cream (single) and I had too ask for that.
We gave up at that point and went home for coffee.

We dined at the Yew Tree Inn over the Easter break when the temperature was not far above zero. Unfortunately (despite having the fire on), the Yew Tree Inn was not much warmer inside. The staff who were working also found the restaurant cold. The bar area which is furthest from the fire was the coldest. Also noticeable was the lack of background music which combined with the cold created a lack of atmosphere and energy to the place. Despite these complaints which could be easily fixed, the food was excellent and the staff lovely. I would come back to the Yew Tree Inn, just not in winter.

Dear Marco:
Congratulations for keeping the standard of your restaurants and quality of your food.
Service was good and the atmosphere interesting.
Continue providing us with this type of options, that makes the UK as the main gastronomic centre in the world.
Thanks and regards

My wife and I have eaten twice recently at the Yew Tree. We have also been reently for enjoyable meals at the Hind's Head at Bray and the White Horse Pub at Hatching Green.
But we will return by choice to the Yew Tree for superb cuisine, which is excellent value for money.
The partridge main course we enjoyed at our last visit between Christmas and New Year was perfection.

An evening of fairly poor service but mainly excellent food especialy the raspberry souffle, game pie and the partridge. Waitress asked twice about the 'crumpets' allegedly served with the potted shrimps and the only reply both times was a giggle. Shouldn't the fat on belly pork be a crispy and why am I paying an extra £2.50 for a small pot of mashed potatoes? Had to remind them to bring the coffee. It may only be a local pub but these are not local prices so there's work to be to done to reach a consistently good standard.

The fact that it serves no veggie nonsense is a bonus. The food is wonderful, the service spectacular and the wine list excellent. Critics of this place should stick to Waggamma. They belong in such sterile places. The Yew Tree Inn is a gem.
