Thanks Sea Cow, Dulwich, We had a lovely night out on Lordship lane, drinks at The Mag, dinner at Sea Cow, which was great - all very fresh and well cooked, it was busy but we were not rushed. We then went on to Black Cherry for pudings and a night cap or two (saw other Sea Cow diners in there doing the same) We'll be doing this again!

Four of us went to Sea Cow last night, our first impression was of a very warm welcome and although it was busy we were given a table quickly.
We all had different mains and everyone was very happy with our food, The wine list is simple, but just right and the service was good.
We loved the minalmist style of the place, which does not pretend to be anything other than an honest fish restaurant.
My only recomendation to Sea Cow would be to change the music source, it's fine untill you realise its the radio and then have to listen to radio commercials whilst enjoying such good food.

Went to The Seacow for the first time on Saturday night with my wife. The place was buzzing and we waited for ten minutes for a table. The waitress offered us a drink whilst we waited and was very friendly keeping us updated on the wait. The menu is simple but the food is exceptional for the price. We had some grilled tiger prawns to start and the calamari with tartare sauce and a fat wedge of lemon. For mains I went with traditional fish and chips and my wife the grilled seabass. Both were cooked perfectly. The only downer was no puds but we had another glass of wine each instead. All in all a really good value meal out in a really great little restaurant. We will go back.

Have just come back from the sea cow having decided to give it a second chance, bad idea. I only bought two portions of chips to take home for me and the partner. The worst rubbery old pieces of potatoes ive ever had the misfortune to be overcharged for, £5 it cost. The service is terrible also, they are two busy nattering with each other to even offer eye contact. Having asked out the side of his mouth whether id like salt and vinegar, without even looking at what he was doing he trickeled both meagerly over one corner of the chips. Interupting his conversation i asked for a bit more to be applied. He done the same again.....terrible service, terrible. Having tasted the chips once home ninety percent went straight to the bin.....Avoid this place....go to a traditional chippy that knows how to make fish and chips......pays less money on the fixtures and fittings and consentrates on the product.

Have eaten here on a couple of occasions and had take out food another couple of times. Overall quite disappointing bearing in mind that it's not all that cheap. Service is brusque and the fish portions laughable. Even though I live relatively close-by I now drive to Olley's in Herne Hill to get my fish and chips fix. Bearing in mind the Sea Cow's proximity to one of London's most lauded chippers they really should be upping their game.

I ate here at the beginning of the month and was quite disappointed, I love a good portion of fish and chips now and again and thought this posh fish and chip shop would make a great Saturday lunch.
My partner had the mussels, which were plentiful and apparently very tasty, I decided to go for the crab cakes, which were tasteless blobs of mashed potato in bread crumbs with a miniscule amount of crab in them, and no seasoning what so ever, a plain baked potato would have had more flavour.
To top it off the waitress was the most miserable, blunt and rude person I have ever encountered in any restaurant I have eaten in, what a shame in a street that is full of good places to eat that Sea Cow doesn't think it needs to give good service and quality food to keep their tills ringing.

Let me weigh into this debate. I decided to go recently for a cheap birthday night out and was prepared to be disappointed due to the negative tone of some of the reviews.
First impressions weren't that great - I thought the interior was going to be a bit smarter and the waitress with frizzy blonde hair was quick to serve but sulky and impatient. The atmosphere was somewhat dead, notwithstanding that it was a Tuesday night. Also, I was expecting to be able to choose how to have the fish cooked but the curt response was that it only comes grilled.
However any doubts were dispatched when the food arrived. I went for a lemon sole which was very fresh, a generous size and superbly cooked. Delicious! The posh mushy peas can be recommended although I wasn't overwhelmed by the chips - a bit on the dry side and in my mind not as good as our local chippy.
I was most surprised by the pricing - £9 for a large lemon sole is pretty good value, considering you can pay close to that for the fresh version in a fishmonger. There isn't much mark-up involved here and it is a lot less then you would pay for the equivalent quality and size in a decent restaurant. On the other hand, 50p for a tiny dollop of tartare sauce is shameful.
Portion-wise my experience definitely didn't correspond to the complaints about being short changed in this department - I was stuffed by the end of my meal. On the plus side again, I was pleasantly surprised that the Sea Cow does not charge service, giving us a chance to drop a very small hint to that waitress!
I totally disagree with the last reviewer's opinion that this is "overpriced fish and chips" - it certainly isn't. This is a very decent fish restaurant in completely different market to your local chippy.

Overpriced for fish and chips. Toilets are awful, staff just as bad.
Really disappointing. No, really.

I have to agree with Jane. This used to be good but it has definately gone downhill. Bought kids portions recently and when we got home and opened the box I was apalled. They weren't even bite size. I took them back and complained and the staff argued that it's a kids portion. I said that as it's half the price of a full size portion it's reasonable to expect at least half the amount. What we got wasn't even a quarter. They did change them but I will not be going back again.
