Some staffs were not polite, which obviously ruined the meal!

Went on Saturday 13th Oct.

Pleasant atmosphere, good service, very relaxed, interesting menu - but found the food very underwhelming, highly seasoned in a 'lashings' sort of way rather than judicious use of salt and spice allowing natural flavours to come to the fore.

We had deep-fried tofu, Feudal roast beef and mackerel amongst other things. Highlight was the mackerel, grilled in banana leaf and filleted at the table. Tasty bit of fish, best ordered as part of a meal with a wet dish like a curry or a soup as they would eat it in Asia as it's a bit dry with just rice.

All-in-all it was ok, a decent local, but I wouldn't trek across London to eat here.

Having just moved to Shoreditch experimentation is our 'staple' dinner at the moment. We have eaten at a few of the Vietnamese places on the high street and this is definitely the best. We have never had to wait (long) for a table despite always being busy. The service is great (bearing in mind there is a small language barrier), the prices more than reasonable and the food is delightful. I life to try different things although seem to keep going back to the One pot dish of BBQ Pork loin on rice noodles for a whole £6. This dish is filling (not stodgy) and so beautifully fresh. I certainly found my local Vietnamese.

Gave this place a visit for the 1st time last Saturday and wasn't too impressed considering all the previous raving reviews.

For starters we ordered the Imperial Rolls to share and a Seafood Soup Noodle for me and Shredded Chicken and Pork with Egg Soup Noodle for my partner.

For £3.80 we got just 2 small rolls that were cut into 2 so it would look more and didn't find these as tasty as ones we've tried in London or even Brussels where we have found the best Vietnamese restaurants at reasonable prices without any service.

For the soup noodles, I had just 2 prawns, 3 or 4 extremely fine sliced scallops and some squid. Very disappointed in the quantity of the seafood considering they charged £6.50 plus 10% service on top! The majority of the dish was noodles (cheap ingredient) and soup!

As for my partner, there was the (small portion of) shredded chicken but the pork was processed meat and again the dish consisted of noodles and soup!

I don't mind paying their prices plus service just as long as they provide you with quality and quantity.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasent, but that can't be said for the toilets in the basement. I recommend you go at home before you set off!

I visited the restaurant with three friends late Tuesday evening and had to wait 30 minutes for a table.

We had a varity of starters, the salad served with mango sauce was really nice but didn't like the cold squid over the top of the salad.

We also had this monk fish which was cooked up in front of us served with rice noddle and It came with a really horrible smelling fish sause. I didn't enjoy the dish as it was a little tasteless and the dish was over powered by the dill.

Overall the mains we had was really good but we were disapointed with the starters.

Went after work on a Tuesday night at 7:30 with 6 people. It was almost empty but that never puts me off when you are early.

It meant we got good service and I was pleased to find the place bright and clean and not cramped.

The waitress was not the happiest person but maybe that's Vietnam for you.

We had a big variety of starters and main courses and it was excellent. The Viet pizza is a seafood omelette and the Viet steak dishes were high quality - both recommended.

I will be going back even though it's out of my way

I went out for a dinner at Viet Grill last weekend; Lotus has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat. The food was fresh, healthy and the portions were huge. Plus the prices were affordable, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean.

The place was great and I am a regular!!!!

If you like food you owe it to yourself to check out Lotus. Lotus is a must try!!

Really decent Vietnamese restaurant (might be the only one for the whole city) serving dishes which are served in Vietnam. I was in Vietnam three weeks ago, inspired by the food culture overthere, and particularly loved the Markerel wrapped in banana leaf. Suprisingly I found the same dish at Viet Grill, with an absolutely same taste and quality with the one I had. The menu here must meticulously be created by a Vietnamese gastronomer with a real love for Vietnamese food.

Things that I like here is Viet Grill menu is free of Chinese hybrids, which could put you off when reading menus of the nearby Vietnamese restaurant in Kingsland Road. Comparing with the others, Viet Grill could be unusal with English who are used to with Chinese food over decades, but now is the time to explore new food cultures, and Viet Grill is the answer for Thai food from South East Asian. This is why is standing out the crowd of Chinese-Vietnamese restaurants in Kingsland Road. Try it yourself and you will love it.

We celebrated my husbands 40th birthday here on Saturday night. We were a group of 20 - we paid £15 each for a huge variety of dishes to share - quantity and quality could not be faulted. The food was fantastic and really good value. Totally delicious. Additionally the service was friendly, courteous and helpful. A bit off the beaten track but worth the walk.

An absolutely wonderful meal. Truly. The steak melted in my mouth and the baked fish exploded its flavours in my mouth. I was astounded by this little place with friendly and accommodating staff and serving some sublime food.
