The Thomas Cubitt

The Thomas Cubitt has to be the best sunday lunch in town. It is absolutely fantastic: the food is superb, the service is helpful and efficient and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's just perfect. Book a table upstairs in the dining room, they have two sittings for lunch, we opted for the latter. Downstairs gets packed and is pretty noisy with the usual rabble of sloaney types but it's a fun atmosphere. I ordered the roast pork which was SUBLIME. It is quite pricey but totally worth every penny. Really impressed and can't wait to go back again.

This place is going downhill remarkably quickly. Despite being in a great location and an attractive space, the food and service have notably deteriorated since its opening. Staff can be aloof and dismissive. Despite offering a simple menu, portion sizes have shrunk and the food is poorly seasoned and prepared. The Thomas Cubitt's superficial image fits perfectly with its Belgravia location. Unfortunately, its lack of attention to substance will not maintain the enthusiasm of Belgravia/Pimlico locals .

Unfortunately for Ems he must have been sitting on the wrong table at The Thomas Cubitt on his account of a painfully aggravating night out...However I beg to differ. As a regular of this gastro pub I always enjoy dining there. And unlike some I understand that due to its ever increasing popularity, service can occasionally be slower then usual during busy nights. But this is counteracted by its amazing food and ambiance- which is why I, like so many others keep comming back for more. Next time you want a bottle of wine perhaps you would be better off visiting your local oddbins, that way there would be more of a chance of me getting a table on my next visit!
After sampling many of their dishes, a 3 course reccomendation would definately be the salt and pepper squid, followed by the steak, and finished off with the good old bakewell tart.

As I live locally, this pub has often been a lovely place for an very good bite of decent English food. Things have been rapidly heading downhill of late and tonight particularly was a disaster. We waited an age for our pre-food cocktails, then ages to order - the special was also off before busy Saturday night service which did not impress. When our wine finally arrived, after having to ask 3 times, it was then whisked away as it was one that had been used to sell by the glass behind the bar. What ensued then was a wait while another one was retrieved from the cellar and although we were ensured the cellar was indeed refrigerated, it was of course luke warm wine that arrived. During the wait another totally wrong bottle of wine was also offered to our table. Some other useless person eventually went to get more ice to chill our correct warm wine in the bucket - all i can say is the quantity provided would not have been enough for an ant igloo. Ridiculous! When the food eventually arrived we were missing salt and pepper, bread for one diner's soup and an order of fries. This we had to ask for but in fairness, the response was quick. Food, ok. Nothing compared to the original high standards that used to be the norm here, although I can highly recommend the chicken liver parfait - highlight of a very drab evening. Add to this the incessant and deafening use of a blender crushing ice behind the bar, music that creeps up and doesn't suit this kind of place and plenty other tables we saw waiting far too long/receiving the wrong orders and I think you have my case for not returning here ever again. Shame.

I went upstairs to the Thomas Cubitt for lunch (2 courses 19.50, 3 24.50) this week and found it a civilised, urbane experience. Firmly under the gastopub umbrella the cooking and service are well above average. The menu is exotic(ish) I had a balletine of duck to start and venison (served with a delicious little cornish pasty) for main my colleague a cheese souffle and lamb. All in all I would heartily recommend this place, ideal for a private business lunch or dinner with friends, the pub downstairs is great too.

Good, great ambience and charming, friendly service. All for very reasonable gastropub, prices given the smart location. Am not sure why the "Little Englander" below was complaining about foreign waitresses but they all seemed pretty competent and spoke English.

We ate here on a Saturday lunchtime, party of three adults and one 11yr old.
Food was generally good – oysters, mussels , fish and chips very good.
Fishcakes, watercress salad and champagne cream very bland, probably passable individually, terrible in combination. Pudding – profiteroles, frankly tasted a little stale and the chocolate sauce was abysmal.
Service irritating - waitress couldn't understand English.

Having dined previously at the Thomas Cubitt and having been very impressed by both the food and service, last night's experience was dissapointing. The food was patchy (with distinctly average to poor mains letting down some good starters) and the service lacklustre. Although the ambience remains lovely, I can no longer recommend what is a fairly pricey gastropub. Try Rosemary Lane or Magdalen for superior food and service at better prices.

We went to this resturant last night with some friends over from Australia, I had heard great things about it and was still blown away, AMAZING food and service, a fantastic place to go.
Only minus was the rude staff downstairs in the pub, the American or Candian girl, who was very rude in getting everyone to leave the pub at closing time, as well as getting last drinks,
But the staff upstairs-wonderful. Faultless service, food, atmoshphere.
Came to £250 for 4 of us, including two bottles of wine with 3 entrees and 4 mains.

I do not live far from here, and I love to take friends and family there for any occasion, whether it may be for a drink or sunday lunch.
I love the interior as it is cool yet cosy. The clientele is very casual sophisticated, but varies from the quintessential belgravia trust fund kids to the lovely eccentric lady with her toy poodle.
The food is always good. My most recent sunday lunch there had me totally silent through my whole desert. I had the chocolate brownie. It is however not what I expected as i generally do not like brownies very much, but it was frightfully good: warm and rich.
I love this place and I really recommend it.
Beware though, it does get busy, it is a bit pricey but worth it.
