Went again, 3 of us ladies at lunch. Had lamb as well as chicken which was tender and just as good as chicken. Definitely a good spot for a no fuss hot lunch. Would come for dinner too if only I lived closer!

The person below who said they came with their son has also posted an identical review of another Turkish Restaurant recently...hmmm...bad luck maybe?
I came here for lunch for the first time last week and we were the only diners. We ordered the mixed mezze which was several different cold dip type things- homous, cacik, bulgar wheat, aubergine and two vege/tomato conconctions served with lovely warm bread. All were delicious and easily fed the three of us. As it was lunchtime and we were not too hungry we also shared the chicken shish with rice and salad which was fresh, tender and tasty. I also appreciated the very hot green green chilli served alongside it, made a change from the usual big green chillis you get in Turkish places that are not really hot at all.
Was very happy with the meal, which came to £20 for three of us including a beer and a coffee. Will definitely be going back for lunch next week!

We had a dismal experience at this place yesterday. I went there with my teenage son. It was Sunday, approximately 2pm.
The place was completely empty. As I was starving and risking a serious headache, I ordered a Turkish coffee (they do not have an espresso machine) whilst we looked at the menu. I was surprised to find that the menu was quite limited. My son, horrified at seeing the lamb testicles kebab on the menu, conveyed that he would not be ordering anything that was going to be cooked on the same grill as these organs were cooked. I love offal and had no problems with it at all. It was hard work trying to convince him to have a chicken kebab - he would not hear of it.
Whilst we were having our very heated discussion, three members of staff were chatting around the bar; not one of them was remotely interested in making the coffee I had ordered almost ten minutes earlier.
What with my son refusing to have any of the substantial meals (and so probably demanding more food in an hour or two), and the staff ignoring my order, I decided the place did not bode at all well and that it was best if we cut our losses and left.
I do appreciate that staff get de-motivated when the place is quiet, but why should clients be punished for the fact that they are bored?
(Incidentally, for hardcore offal lovers: there's a place in Green Lanes that offers an extensive menu of offal-based kebabs. It's two doors down from the excellent Antepliler, right on the corner. I had a really lovely sweetbreads kebab there.)

We used to live almost around the corner from Yildiz and thought it was one of the best Turkish ocakbasi (open fire) restaurants around. Went for many years up until 2002 when we moved out of the neighbourhood. How I miss it! Lovely food, good Turkish music, calm ambience, beautiful Turkish kelims and saddlebags on the walls, fresh fresh salads, lovely meats, good rice and desserts too if you had any room. All for £20 for 2, a bit more for a bottle of Doluca red. & how i wish there were someplace like it where we now live. Yildiz is to be commended for keeping up its standards for so many years. You won't find an "off night" here.
