La Casalinga

Well, I am really surprised at the reviews! I have travelled the world many times, and love Italian, though Casalinga isnt the worlds best, its well above average. The atmosphere is nice and the food tasty, not cheap though.
The main downside for me is that the menu is a little limited, other than that I have eaten there quite a few times, and will go again for sure.
Make your own mind up I guess!

I went to this restaurant this week and had an enjoyable although not amazing evening. THe service is good and welcoming and the interior is nice. I was quite surprised at the prices - the house wine is £15 and pretty poor and I think the next bottle after that is about £24 /25 which I thought was very steep. There is a good selection of starters although again I found the prices toppy - I think the Bruschetta (which was nice but not amazing) was about £7. As a main course, there is a good selecction of about 5 or 6 pastas and a variety of meats. Several of us had veal dishes which were very good at about £12 but then we were told that you have to order any vegetables, side dishes etc seperately........
It was a nice meal and the food was good but I think they charge a lot for food that is nice but not the best Italian meal you will ever eat. I hope that helps!

In general .. indifferent and overpriced
No active sense of being welcome.
Food .. just OK
Average main course: £15 plus £3 a portion for vegetables
First choice of main course unavailable, at 8pm on a Saturday evening.
No wine under £22 a bottle.
The red we had was probably a Sicilian hillside job, which would be fine at £14 a bottle, but definitely not at £25.
Service .. OK in a "has to be done" sort of way.

I am italian and I have been travelling a lot in the last 2 years. Even in the wildest developing country, I have never eaten so badly. And the fact that everybody speaks italian there is even more shamefull. The Cannelloni loked like Waitrose one. The bescamelle sauce was liquid and all over the place.
It is a no no dear friends.
