I've been to Babinondas several times after a friend's reccomendation and have to say, it is the best Greek restaurant in this area (which is saying something as there are dozens within easy reach). The prices also compare favourably to most of the other Cypriot eateries in this part of town.

The mixed Meze is plentiful and varied, with well cooked jumbo prawns and melt in the mouth, charcoal grilled lamb the highlights. Plus they also offer a fish meze, with some fantastic seafood specialities. From the menu, the main courses are not for the small of stomach and offer a hearty portion of well prepared, Greek fare.

The service is usually prompt and warm, which adds to the experience, though on one recent occasion I was dissapointed as the staff were a little slack. This was an isolated incident, based on my previous experience, so I will be back.

Was a bit dubious about going because of previous uncomplimentary reviews, however after two visits (the second visit was with more people just to make sure the first visit wasn't a fluke) I'd have to say that this is a restaurant well worth visiting.

The meze is a veritable feast (and cheaper than nearby Vrisaki) with no dud dishes. Service on both occasions was efficient and friendly, the house white was good, the atmosphere is good whether full or nearly empty (the difference between a dry Friday night and wet Tuesday night!). Personally I can't wait for the arrival of a summer so that I can sit out front and watch the world go by from under the huge grapevine that adorns the front.

Very disappointing. Thats my verdict of Babinondas having eaten there recently. The staff were OK but there must have been at least 7 waiters / waitresses. I question whether this number were really needed even on a Saturday night when I went there. They certainly didn't seem to be busy even after more people had arrived as they had time to watch the TV at the back in the kitchen (Pop Idol is more important than service?)

As for the food maybe the place is good for fish but my pork afelia was 50% fat and the chewest I've ever tasted. I reckon it would have bounced if I had thrown it at the floor. At £10.50 as well somewhat expensive, its only a kebab after all. And in true Greek style the whole ensemble tasted as if it had been cooked in the morning (or the day before) and reheated.

Verdict therefore - Give it a miss.

On Friday me and my wife went to Babinondas for our 6 month wedding anniversary. This is the 3rd time we have been there. Although we were not pleased the first time we went, we though to give it another go, as all restaurants have there off days.Second time around was a better experience, we both had the steak, wich we were not entirely pleased with, but still enjoyable. So on Friday we gave it a go again, and i am sorry to say that the steak still has not inproved. The startes were lovely, just not very good presented. My wife had the prawns, wich were great, I had the kalamari, wich was also fine, but looked a bit lost on the plate, no garnish??? The waiting staff were friendly and helpfull. The restaurant seemed to get very full very quickly,not surprising as it has a wonderfull atmosphere. Pricing is a little bit higher than average, but for some dishes it is worth it. Would we go back again, yes, would we have the steak again, no. There sea food makes the place.
