The worst Vietnamese Restaurant ever!! Food was absolutely disgusting!! when we asked for an explanation of why the food was so terrible they openly told us... 'This is catered for Westerners!!' so angry & annoyed!! If you really want to try Vietnamese food... please go MamaPho in Deptford that is what you call authentic!

I visited Hoa Viet hoping to find a shabby temple of delicious, cheap and authentic food much like the places I love on Kingsland Road. We flipped through the 4 or 5 pages of Chinese dishes and ordered all our dishes from the Vietnamese section at the back, all tried and trusted classics: pho chin, summer rolls, crispy pancake.

The pho was lacking in the essential good stock, also the herbs and shoots we were given on a separate plate looked as sad and apologetic as I must have done by that point. Our papaya and carrot salad with nuts on top looked and tasted as though it had been made back in '09 and popped in the fridge in a cling-film shroud to be exhumed at a later date. The crispy pancake was perhaps the best of a bad lot and was the dish we came closest to actually finishing. The summer rolls were neither good or bad, there were certainly enough of them – around 20 of the things! They're certainly not mean with the portions.

Even though the 5 dishes (with tea) came to just £21, I won't be going back. 10/10 indeed? 6 would be generous.
