This place is great. It looks a bit shabby on the outside and it's functional within, but you get a really warm welcome and the food is fantastic! Big portions, too. We ordered way too much. Steamed rolls, a zingy salad and a great cauldron of spicy seafood soup for starters. Then noodles with king prawns, choy sum in garlic, squid with tomatoes and herbs and crispy fried beef. We drank Hue beer. Everything was splendid and the bill was tiny. Leave a big tip, the staff are lovely.

This place is a little gem. While the interior of the restaurant could do with a makeover, the food more than makes up for any lack of atmosphere. On my last visit, my sister and I had a lovely meal. We started with the summer rolls and dipped them in the delicious sticky plum sauce (I think that's what it is?!). We also had the chilli salt prawns which were really juicy and moreish. Then we had the spicy beef pho - this was soooo good. The beef was tender and flavoursome, the greens, chillies, basil and all the all yummy goodies in this traditional dish were just what we needed.
The service is very friendly too. If you're after a good Oriental meal you'd be much better off visiting Hoa Viet than Buddha Jazz on Grove Lane that everyone raves about.

Love it because it's not trying to be anything but what it is, a genuine Vietnamese experience. It's not trying to pretend to be posh and the prices reflect that. It's simple and is quite like much of the food that I have tasted whilst travelling around Vietnam.
Great if you're looking for something for a relaxing, not-so-fancy evening with nice staff and nice food.

I love Hoa Viet. And it's certainly the best thing camberwell has got going for it. The food is fresh and the service friendly. I've always really rated their noodle soups and the woman there explained to me that they make everything from scratch including the rice noodles! They actually grind the rice the make it into a paste, roll, steam and then cut it! Fantastic!

Decor here is abit like stepping into laminate flooring SALE! sat next to the window complete with view of moving traffic but service was prompt and friendly (and quite cute!) Not the best of vietnamese food, too much MSG in my pho ga and the banh cuon left alot to be desired. Next to no ambience (unless you include smoke from my one fellow diner) Wouldn't recommend.
