Having eaten in many Thai restaurants in Australia my husband and I were curious about our local one Sukho. It always seems full which was part of the problem. We were asked if we had a reservation which we rarely ever do and from then on with no reservation made to feel second class to the other diners. We were told we had to be out by 830 then although the service was prompt perhaps a little too so. We felt rushed. We ordered one starter between two and it barely touched the sides, needed a microscope. Our two mains were nice but couldn't help feeling hungry after. I ordered a dessert and then we were hit by a hefty bill of £44, twice what we would usually spend on an ordinary night out. A 12.5% service charge is stated as not optional which i'm not sure if that is legal or not, but haven't come across it before. The other diners seemed to be there nursing numerous bottles of wine, why not go to a bar for that? We were herded out pretty quick and left in a daze out on the cold street £44 less in the pocket. Wouldn't go again.

We tried this restaurant after hearing it was one of the best thai restaurants in London and on recommendation from a food critic friend. The service was indeed mixed but we had smiles a plenty from our waiter and the food was definitely very good. The servings are typically Thai (and indeed fine dining restaurant size) they are smaller than the american 'restaurant' standards but for your average sized person they are definintely filling and enough to make sure you are experiencing exquisite fine thai restaurant food (following on from one of the previous reviews) There is a standard 12.5% gratuity but the 3 times we have eaten there we have never had a problem paying it as the food has been so good. The value for money is relative to the taste of the food. Make sure you try and go early to get the best service as this place seems to be packed out on Friday and Saturday nights after 8.

This is our local Thai restaurant and having eaten Thai in many restaurants in Australia, Thailand and UK this is definitely one of the best. It is very traditional thai so indeed the portions are smaller than your average oversized western meal but the tastes are exquisite. The waiters are all Thai's and admittedly sometimes the language understanding is a barrier and service is slower than expected - but they are polite and amiable. On week nights this restaurant is always busy so expect some waiting time for such delicious and carefully prepared and presented food. You will need to book tables in advance for Thurs through to Saturday and sometimes you will get asked to be out by a certain time -it is quite a small restaurant. It is mid range re pricing and every person we have taken there has adored the food. Ultimately that is the prime reason for going to this beautiful restaurant.

My partner and myself had a meal there yesterday evening... in essence, the food was good, 7 on the scale of 10 but the service was bad 2 /10 and yet they automatically slap on 12.5% service charge on top of the bill. Why the service is rated so poorly?

1. the place as quite empty when we got in and yet they wanted to sit us at a corner near the service table but I insist to sit somewhere else and they agreed. there was no reason not to, there were about 7-8 two-seat tables that were free!

2. service was done with a frown. no smiles. even if the waiters and waitress were thais - a smile is a universal language!

3. we queried the bill as it was unclear. It took them 10 mins to come back to our table to sort out our query. I felt like getting up from my seat to prompt them to attend to us. we were over-charged.

All I would say is enjoy the food, pay the price of the food but if the service is bad, do not pay the service charge. We should start a habit to take control of the level of service we are paying for. Finally, do not forget to check your bill.

just had my dinner there. the food is indeed excellent, probably the best thai food I had eaten in UK so far. It is slightly expensive but I am happy to pay it for the quality of food. The only downside to this place is the small portion of all the dishes.

Hi,

My family of three had dinner at Sukho Thai, Fulham Rd, SW6 on 10 March 2007.

It certainly does NOT deserve its star in your guide. Why?

- After insisting that we 'give up' our table at 9.00pm (7.30 booking), service was terribly slow: our main dishes only arrived at about 8.40, even though we had arrived and ordered promptly.

- Portions sizes are indeed meagre (as reported). I would call them insulting, given how much they charge. We left hungry, having ordered three starters, three mains and two portions of rice. The tab, with a few drinks, was £69 (see below).

- Two of our dishes arrived lukewarm (they were went to be hot). I believe they were sitting around in the kitchen, given the wait we endured.

- The difficult-to-read, hand-written bill arrived as soon as we finished our mains; we were not given the chance to order anything else.

- The bill had one extra dish added, which I queried. The waitress had double counted a dish, crossed it out and was not particularly apologetic. A 10% service charge had also been added, which I asked them to remove.

The quality of the food was fine, but the combination of the above deficiencies means that we certainly will not be going back. Very disappointing. Amazingly, the place was turning many tables twice; I conclude that my neighbours have low standards.

Please feel free to forward these comments to the restaurant, if you ever do.

Every time I go to this restaurant it is absolutely delicious and I have never seen such amazingly presented food in my life. The staff are charming, the interior looks good but most importantly the food is all utterly delicious and far better than other, more expensive Thai places in Fulham and Chelsea.

A friend of mine recommended me to this resturant. I am not normally a big fan of Thai food but this place was excellent. It's the best Thai food I've had. The price is resonable but the portions are small so you will have to order a few more dishes.

Having gone here earlier in the year and thought it was ok, we visited Sukho again on Saturday night. The decor seeemed to have changed and become slightly more upmarket and the menu was different with some rather more interesting variations than before. The service was a bit scatty but I have to say that this was by far the best thai meal I have ever eaten. We have been to lots of the well known thais in London and elsewhere and food-wise this beat them hands-down. The starters were interesting and far from the run-of-the-mill satays and spring rolls you normally get and were beautifully presented. And my main of sirloin in pepper and onion sauce was so good I'm still thinking about it. Honestly there is little more to say than give this place a go. Perfect for a romantic night out or a meal with friends.
