Yesterday I had been to this place. I am really worried about their unprofessional service. I think ******* ***** has to do something about this, or else they are going to loose their customers to others successful competitors in Eastham. The price we pay for what we get is totally unfare. asked for Onion Uttappam and it was brought some half an hour late.As I am a proper Chenniate I know what is their Sambar, but the sambar they served me here is not of that quality they give in chennai. Please make neccessary changes. ********* ****** has good brand image but I am not very sure if its going to retain the same.I dont recommend this place. No value for money.Rest are doing well in Eastham.

The Real Madras/Chennai food. Authentic. I have been in their chain for last several years and several place (all branches in Chennai, Manhattan and London). Almost same quality all these years and all these places. Food preparation is precisely same. It is a treat for anyone who can appreciate traditional Chennai food. They are leaders even in India. Hats off to them.. It is one of the symbol for Chennai.

Saravana Bhavan is one of the famous chain restaurants from Tamilnadu. The East Ham branch has quite a rich variety in menu. Having been a regular to this chain in Chennai, India, I wasn’t quite happy with their quality in the early days of their opening at East Ham. I recently visited them and am very happy that they are back in form. I have restarted to visit them frequently now. If you are looking out for some authentic south Indian this is one of the places to visit.

The restaurant is very busy in the weekends (especially Saturday evenings)and you could end up in long queue before you can get in (but that’s the case with most of the quality Indian restaurants @East Ham in the weekends).

The price on Menu is a bit little costlier than the other restaurants in the area but for the quality and quantity - its very well worth it. The quantity factor very well applies to the starters. For example “Gopi 65” which costs £2.95 will be too heavy for a single person and worth sharing between 2 or 3 people. Same applies to other starters as well, but works a treat if you are a group visiting the restaurant for sharing.

“Mixed Vegetable Paratha” deserves a special mention (as I like that very much as well :) ). At times this dish gets spicy and ask for “less spicy” if you want it less spicy like me.

The hotel atmosphere and ambience are perfect compliment to the food. The restaurant is reasonably spacious unlike the cramped restaurant in the area. The service is good but still has rooms for improvement. The open plan kitchen doesn’t really serve the purpose of you able to view the making of food. The kitchen chefs are quite noisy and friendly chats/ shouts between chefs and bearers interrupts the ambience a lot and could be avoided.

Dishes I like at Saravana bhavan - Spring rolls, Gopi 65, Fried Idly, Mixed Vegetable Paratha, Chilli Panneer, South Indian /North India thaali

Dishes that I found are not so good - Channa masala(totally different and quite spicy spoiling the taste), Kashmiri Pulav (was missing something).

When my husband and I found this restaurant it blew our mind! Finally a vegetarian south indian restaurant with amazing food at extremely cheap prices. Only downside is that its out in east ham! But thats just a tube journey and its so worth it. 10 minutes walk from east ham tube. Its an informal cafe style (no alcohol served) with south indian delicacies). Forget your curry and lager, go here and have dosai, thali meals, utthapam, parotta, channa batura with the most delicious chutneys and sambar! This place is regulalry packed out with indians, so you know its good. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. Highly recommended.
