Kyoto

After reading some reviews from London-eating, finally had a lunch at Kyoto restaurant. Excellent!! It's a real sushi restaurant in London. most of customers are Asian, as the taste is real Japanese food. I found some very local menu which cannot be found from other Japanese restaurant. Lunch set menu is around £6-10, includes miso soup and salad. very fresh and delightful. The inner atmosphere is pleasant and clean and staffs are very welcoming.

If you want high quality sushi taste in much cheaper price, highly recommend this restaurant!! it's same taste as top Japanese restaurants in London over £40. definitely will return again!!

Delicious sushi and an excellent price.

Kyoto is my favourite restaurant in soho.The staff are welcoming and friendly.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent value for money. Not fine dining but good Japanese home cooking, excellent sashimi and a good range of bento's.

My favourite Japanese when I am in London for the day. You can have a good meal for less than £20 a head which is a bargain compared to many Japanese restaurants.

Probably authenticated by the large number of younger (student?) Japanese who frequent it.

Service is also, whilst not polished, more than adequate and friendly, something not always found in Japanese restaurants.

Some of the more expensive ones especially seem to fall down on the fiendliness of service.

I love this place! If you're looking to spend under £50 a meal for decent sushi or sashimi, then this is where you should come. The fish is succulent and fresh, you get large portions and they use real crab in their California rolls instead of that cheap crabstick stuff you get in other restaurants. Their chefs are Korean, but there is an improvement in quality rather than not. I've been to the place next door, but the food isn't as good as Japan. At least this place is closer than a lot of others (and I've tried a lot).

If they're busy (at the usual hours), then the service will occasionally slow down - but I'm willing to keep going here while they constantly maintain their high standards in cuisine. Their service is pleasant, and the decor is okay.

In the same price range and the same area, you'll find: that place next door (always forget the name), Taro, Ten Ten Tei, Kulu Kulu, Japan Centre, random ones in Chinatown nearby - let's not mention how bad Yo Sushi is shall we?

Why aren't there more Japanese restaurants of a quality similar to that of Tokyo? Or even of Paris - which for some reason has way more Japanese speciality restaurants.

I have been to Kyoto many times, both in the new location and when it was in the much smaller premises next door - I will continue to return because of the excellent quality of the sushi and value for money that is second to none.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming, they always remember me and know how to treat loyal customers. The owner Kim is often around and happy to share his expertise if you are interested.

I must admit, i am such a big fan of the sushi that i haven't tried too many of the hot dishes on the menu - except the noodles, which are also fantastic. This place is all about the sushi though, the salmon sashimi is superb, as is the tuna, generously sliced and wonderfully fresh. The soft shell crab maki are one of the best i have had, and fantastic value for money. The dumplings are delicious, the spicy tuna rolls are a firm favourite, i have yet to put a foot wrong on the menu.

My advice is to go and share lots of sushi dishes. The wine list is limited, but if they don't have a wine you like drink sake! It is a very relaxed atmosphere and not formal in the slightest.
